Lunch from the Outside
Students skipping lunch because they rather not eat and lose their hygiene! Have you ever seen students walking by the cafeteria but they don’t eat. The subject I will be discussing is off-campus school lunch. The issue I chose is relevant because there will be a mall right next to our school(Kapolei Middle). The reason I chose to discuss this topic is students should be able to have the freedom of going off campus and be able to be trusted to do the right thing. I am a credible speaker because of how this issue affects me. This issue affects me because I’m a student myself and I’d like to go off campus for lunch instead of the cafeteria at our school. Wouldn’t it be great to have lunch somewhere else than school. It can be a great learning opportunity for us. Plus there's many benefits and we even learn

We learn what happens in the real world, like we learn what our parents go through when holding cash and buying lunch somewhere other than school. According to Sammie Yee a reporter, the text states, “Having the opportunity to eat off-campus can teach students time management and discipline”. The evidence supports the reason it's a good learning opportunity because it teaches us students time management and discipline. Off-Campus lunch is a good learning opportunity and can have benefits. There are plenty of benefits to off-campus lunch. There's different varieties of restaurants. There’s places with food and drinks for just $1, if you don’t have as much money with you. According to Madison Hunter, the text states, “Administrators could save money for different things”. This evidence supports the reason their are plenty of benefits to off-campus lunch, it doesn’t just necessarily benefit the students, administrators, teachers and office people get benefited in this too. Off-Campus lunch has many benefits but their can be some opponents to it as
Every year, more and more food is wasted and school lunches because nobody thinks they are good anymore. The quality of food goes down, less students eat, and more wish they could go and eat somewhere, anywhere, else. If schools were to add off-campus lunches, however, that would all improve. While off-campus lunches may promote unsupervised behavior, going off campus for lunches is a viable option because it is cheaper for the school, cheaper for the students, and makes sure everyone will eat.
As I walked into the cafeteria, I caught a whiff of the food being prepared in the cafeteria and thought to myself, “Why can’t we go off-campus to get lunch?” While SLA, the lunch program at Catholic High, provides the school lunches, there could be an alternative solution to this. Unfortunately, students are detained at school during lunch hours and are not able to leave campus during lunch forcing them to be served by SLA or bring their own lunch. If Catholic High School were to introduce an open-campus lunch, students and faculty would benefit greatly. While SLA does provide the lunch at CHS, they do not live up to their standard of “high quality, nutritious, and cost efficient”.
In the article 9 Primary Pros and Cons of Open Campus Lunch, the author expresses some of the benefits of having an open campus, “Open campus lunch is observed to have taught students to be able to interact with the world and be more responsible in certain ways that are closer to how adults do it. Well, they have to communicate with other people when they go to the bank and then to the dining establishment, which is really helpful to their learning even if it is just quick” (ConnectUs). An open campus permits several learning opportunities for students. Allowing students to venture off campus to test their responsibility and trustworthiness. Also, it helps develop decision-making
Another advantage of having open campus lunches is that schools lunch ladies will have an easier time making all the lunches. They will not have to do as much cooking because about a quarter of the school will leave for lunch. That will also save the school a lot of money by not having to spend money on that much food. And most schools are tight on their budgets so it will free up some cap space and with that money the schools can buy better desks, better equipment, or whatever the school's
(Cavendish) School lunches provide nutrients which gives energy for them, for their later classes, and most school lunch is known to be more of a lunch than the junk food being eaten at
Many students and staff have a full day of classes and having a full schedule does not permit enough time to go off campus for lunch. In addition, there are some students that get dropped off by their family, friends or public transportation and not able to leave during the day. That means some students are bound to stay on campus and limited to the junk food in the vending machines. Poor weather could also limit the students from going out and the cafeteria could be utilized in times like this. A cafeteria would offer staff and students the convenience and the choice of having a healthier meal on campus.
Should School Lunches Change For a long time now people have been arguing over whether or not to change up the restrictions to the lunches served in schools across America. Many different arguments have come up in recent years. School officials should not change up the school lunches because some people need more food than others, they should not be able to tell them what they can and can't eat, and finally because it will take lots of time and money to make the switch. The first reason schools should not put a limit on school lunches because some students need more food than others.
For example, an ill student would probably want a bowl of hot soup from their favorite restaurant not rice with meat from the school lunch. Having an Open Campus Lunch can help students choose healthier choices out of all the options provided. When students eat a healthy lunch that satisfies them, they will be able to concentrate more in class.
It is 11:18 A.M. on a regular school day, and I am anxiously monitoring the clock, hoping that the bell will ring announcing the end of fourth period and the start of lunch. I expect my lunchbox to contain the usual tuna salad and sleeve of saltine crackers. After what seems like an eternity, my science teacher dismisses the class, and I am nearly skipping on my way to the cafeteria, attracting the unwanted stares of my judgemental peers. It seems like I am the only one happy to eat the same lunch every day. My friends have already unpacked their lunches and are admiring each other’s cooking skills.
In some schools some principals superintendents have made a decision to opt out of the Healthy choice foods and make there own semi-healthy foods that kids like. To reduce waste and bring back students who have opted to pack a lunch or go off campus for fast food, his districts cafeterias have installed stir-fry stations with abundant vegetables so students can have meals made to order. and he’s added spice bars so kids can even the bland. In schools some principals and administrators are starting to take action.
To begin with, the taste alone of school lunches is beyond unsatisfactory. The meals provided by public schools are not appetizing. There exists a tangible disconnect between the enticing, nutritious meals advertised on the school board’s menus and what the students actually receive—pathetic portions and lukewarm meals slapped onto a tray. Children’s complaints about school lunches are often seen as trite. However, while common, they are not any less accurate.
Studies show that overweight students tend to have more problems with learning and paying attention (Miura). Many parents also fear that children would have the chance to skip school of get into drugs and alcohol while they are loose for their lunch break. People of the communities have also expressed their fears of increased traffic and increased risk of traffic collisions (?9 Primary Pros and Cons of Open Campus Lunch?). Not only can open lunches cause health problems, but they can lead to other dangers such as a car crash or
Stress has become a major issue for high school students. Many students have seven classes, participate in sports, have after school activities, homework, and need to get an adequate amount of sleep each night. Some parents and outside influencers don’t see the benefits of having a longer lunch period for high school students. Students complain about how long school is now but they don 't have enough time outside of school to complete everything they are expected to. While it is understandable that some parents wouldn’t want longer lunches because it could result in safety issues and students having to remain in school 30 minutes longer than the traditional time, longer lunches would give students a chance to complete homework, get help from teachers, and eat a nutritious meal.
“Fast food restaurants have us hooked on to their tasty food. You See a lot of people buying fast food because how good it tastes. Well let me tell you it is not good for your health. Why do fast food places lower their prices because they know people will buy it if it doesn’t cost that much and most people buy it cause that`s how much they can afford”. Fast food places is a way to not cook every week I feel bad for people when I go to McDonald’s and ask them, do you know what you’re eating in they say
One, it gives you energy for the day, and it is said to improve how you perform in school. SFgate says, “It is important to refuel children's glucose supplies with a healthy lunch. A healthy lunch can give children the energy they need to stay focused, pay attention in class, and learn the information presented to them in their classes after lunchtime.” Eating healthy when we are young, is very important when we are older as well. If we eat unhealthy habits when we are young, than we might have unhealthy habits when we are older.
