School shootings are starting to become a norm in today 's world. This is something we can only take precautions for but, we cannot completely stop school shootings from happening. Banning guns is not the option because the shooters are still going to find a way to get their guns. We should not punish everybody for the stupidity of some people 's actions. "At Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado two teens went on a shooting spree on April 20, 1999, killing 13 people and wounding more than 20 others before turning their guns on themselves and committing suicide" (Columbine Shooting, 2018). This is ridiculous to me that two teenagers had taken the lives of innocent people and then just decide after they had done the dirty work they just …show more content…
Evidence shows they were planning for a year to bomb the school in an attack similar to the Oklahoma City bombing (Columbine Shooting, 2018). "Harris was described as the callously brutal mastermind, while Klebold was a quivering depressive who journaled obsessively about love and attended the Columbine prom three days before opening fire" (Columbine Shooting, 2018). Police have been trained more thoroughly for school shooting now that they are happening more often. They are putting the police through real scenario situations of an active-shooter. After this school shooting occurred many schools promoted a zero-tolerance policy for disruptive behavior and threats of violence from students. I agree with this policy because many shooters give out many signs before they actually perform their act. I believe they should not arm teachers with guns because then what is the difference between a teacher and the law enforcement. I think they should make sure that every classroom door is locked when it is shut, and it should be required for the door to be shut through the class period. Also, instead of giving teachers guns I think they should mount a fire extinguisher under their desk. This gives the teacher something to spray at the shooter and possibly hit them on top the head with it. I think this would be a lot better just choice for our teachers and student 's
A simple way to stop school shootings in our district would be by eliminating all the factors that form a school shooter. Most school shooter suffered from bullying or had some sort of mental illness. In order to minimize the chance of a kid becoming a school shooter, we need to increase awareness.
It is very difficult to respond rationally to a national tragedy. For the past two decades the United States has been confronting what appears to be an increasing epidemic school violence, with each additional instance inspiring an ever more rehearsed debate about gun control, mental health, and school security. Many of the proposed solutions to these attacks are hastily composed in the days following an attack, and are based primarily on myths rather than facts. If we intend to improve the situation, we must take a far more measured approach. We must combat this issue based not on our fears, but based on evidence and best-practice.
This world has become filled with unimaginable violence and a significant amount of deaths caused by mass public shooters. The targets of the mass shootings have been places that have a gun-free zone sign posted on the wall. In 1995, the gun-free school zone act was passed which prohibited a person, with possession of a firearm, to step foot on school grounds. This act would allow certain people to be exempt from the gun-free school zone, which includes retired law enforcement officers and a person licensed to carry a concealed weapon. This bill would keep a school relatively safe because it would mean a person that does not have a license to carry a concealed firearm would be charged with a felony.
One method of deterring an active shooter was stated as arming select teachers within schools in order to effectively end the situation and protect the students. The idea of arming teachers would simply be changing concealed carry laws in states so that teachers could potentially fight back against a school shooter. This idea, while having some kinks to work out has good intentions and would save numerous young lives in this kind of situation. The teachers carrying firearms would be trained and they would need to receive training often to continue carrying their gun on school grounds.
Over the past few weeks, arming teachers has been a controversial topic throughout the country. School shootings have taken the lives of many over the past few years, yet they are becoming more and more frequent. In today’s society children shouldn’t have to go to school worried if they are going to be safe that day. If teachers are armed it will add that extra bit of protection to the children. A big question is if arming teachers is even going to matter if an active shooter happens to be in that school.
Implementation would be difficult because “considerations ranging from child learning and development factors, to implementation issues such as whether school districts could even possibly provide the quality and quantity of training necessary.” () To advocate to implementation of these method would not only be extremely difficult but not effective because every shooter situation would not be the same so the type of training would be very vague. In addition, it is unrealistic to expect 25 student to simultaneously attack the shooter at an split seconds notice with accuracy if he walks into the room unknowingly because even SWAT teams have to practice intensely for years to achieve that kind of reaction. () The implementation of these idea are just unrealistic and there are better procedure that can be instated to protect students without putting them in harm’s
Many schools in today’s society suffer from shootings at some point while children are attending school. Shootings in schools are not a new occurrence, and America has dealt with multiple shootings in public schools in which the lives of many children and teachers have been undeservingly taken (Elliott 528). Because of school shootings, this leaves our children in danger with no way to protect themselves. Gun violence in schools is an evident problem, and there are several ways to reduce the number of incidents, such as mental health screening for owners of guns, interconnectedness of communities, and more school funding.
Someone bursts through the school, into the cafeteria, the library, an auditorium, or even in a classroom. Every day the threat looms over us. Haunting us with its increasing numbers. We live in fear of a school shooter. And I will not stand for it.
School shootings have been a problem in the recent times. Schools have tried to remedy this problem by adding armed security guards, putting security measures, and putting in metal detectors. The government only way of trying to help is by arming teachers. As effective as it sounds, this idea has many major drawbacks. Arming teacher will prove troublesome because training with guns is time consuming, guns in the hands of a teacher will make students uncomfortable, and teachers with gun does not ensure safety in the time of an emergency.
You have to protect your students somehow. Having guns in our school would be much safe of course with training with guns. If a teacher has the proper training absolutely they should be allowed to carry it. They are our first line of defense and would be able to react much faster than any police officer who isn't on scene. Saying teachers are going to snap and be a shooter themselves is illogical.
Gun control has been a controversial issue for years and numerous solutions have been proposed and enacted. The debate sparked after tragic civilian attacks, like school shootings. An example, is the tragedy in 1999 at Columbine High School. Two teens attacked the school, killing 13 people and wounding more than 20 others before killing themselves. Following this attack, numerous solutions have been argued and purposed.
Equipping teachers with guns, who are little more than civilians, is absurd. This would not help prevent the type of deadly mass shooting we 've been seeing lately. All that would do is increase the possibility of innocent people getting caught in the crossfire. Instead of training for how to use guns teachers should be taught self defense and how to use items around them as weapons. It would also help if every teacher learned self defense and not just a
Death is unexpected but sometimes preventable; would you ever send your loved one to a place where their safety could be compromised? Schooling takes up approximately seventeen years of your life and is a government enforced activity for minors to attend a form of schooling for a certain length of time before permissible for dropping out. Unfortunately, more than five hundred school shootings have been recorded dating back to 1764. When is the right time to take action and stop mass killings in schools? The first step could be placing metal detectors on the outside of school doors to not only physically, but also psychologically help students and faculty by putting an end to school killings.
Guns have no role in our country schools. Schools and colleges are places of education. Students should be free to learn in an environment away from every day violence. The catastrophes that took place at Sandy Hook Elementary School, Columbine High School, and Virginia Tech. confirm the penetrating conclusion guns have in our nation’s schools. Violence on campus has Students, Parent, and University Staff all concerned and looking for preventative measures.
I was born and grew up in a city called Changle in the south-east of China. It is a small and peaceful place where some people may never have connections with police or criminal justice. I had never heard any crimes related to guns nationwide, and I was never afraid of shooting crimes would happen when I was there. Only some of the law enforcement officers can equip and use guns. In real life, the only situation I would see guns was the escorts holding guns in front of banks, and I did not think those were real.
