Over 7.6 million students play sports while they’re in school but more specifically high school.(Koebler) This means about 55.5% of all high school students play sports in their school district. Just within the last couple of years the numbers have increased to 40,000 students that play sports. (Koebler)Students are spending countless hours being active rather than spending time on their phones. Sports like basketball, baseball, football, wrestling, volleyball, tennis, swimming, and soccer are taking over households across the country, causing teens to be more active within the community helping each other and creating a sense of purpose. Seconds turn into minutes, minutes turn into hours and hours turn into years , time is being wasted by playing a sports. The desire to play will grow like weeds and a garden box depriving the rest and students will only become more active when they join. Some students may even play more than one sport. I have read many concerns addressing the matter and how kids are becoming more productive. Obesity is no longer lingers and increases as rapidly but now sense participation in sports have arose the obesity percentage it has dropped a fair amount. And many of the students are getting scholarships for playing sports. So there are many colleges, encouraging this disruptive hobby. There must be a ban from sports before it infects us all with its aggressive desires. Communities are coming out to watch these athletes play on the court and on the field and many of their fellow students are also falling for these outrageous mind games and tricks by coming out and supporting

The poem “Slam, Dunk, & Hook,” has inspired me to take action in my town to raise awareness on the fact that we need more funding for sports. First of all, these are some benefits that come along with participating in a school sport or simply playing sports in your free time. Students who are active in sports, are more likely to have a positive body image and a satisfactory self-esteem. Another benefit is that physical activities are a marvelous way to relieve stress and reduce depression. “When Sonny Boy’s mama died he played nonstop all day, so hard our backboard splintered.”
According to " The Case Against High-School Sports" (2013), sports could create some study, health, and time management problems for schools and students. In this post, Amanda Ripley initially shows the benefits when involving in the high-school sports: exercise, sportsmanship lessons, some positive personalities, more fun and staying away from vices. She also writes some tales to inform readers that in the US, students are interested and enjoy in sports more than other peers in other countries. However, she claims that the high-school sports have negative effects on schools and students. Next, she gave some schools ' examples to show the problems when schools and students spent too much time and money in high-school sports.
In this community lately, there has been discussion lately on sports possibly being removed from the high schools. Although, they get the most recognition that does not mean that just because one little thing it gets removed and completely forgotten about. In fact, so many people do high school sports in the text “Are High School Sports Good For Kids” it explicitly states “Here in Michigan almost 300,000 young people take part in high school sports every year.” This scene particularly shows that many youth athletes participate in high school sports in only one state alone.
A major reason is that sports keep kids healthy. R. Dawn Comstock, an investigator at the Center for Injury Research and Policy stated “We have an epidemic of obesity in this country, and sports is one of the ways for kids to incorporate exercise in their lives” (qtd. in Perkel 2) . Most kids don’t get active anymore.

The Wasps were down three points when they had the ball at the 50 yard line, and the fate of the championship all depended on one throw. “Hike” yelled the quarterback; the ball snapped to him, and the receiver bolted down the field turf spraying from his cleats. 1.1 million students play high school football, and it is one of the most popular sports. The alumni have pride when they wear their jerseys because they represent their school.
More and more often you hear about young kids quitting sports due to being burned out. Julianna W. Miner reports, “According to a poll from the National Alliance for Youth Sports, around 70 percent of kids in the United States stop playing organized sports by the age of 13 because ’it’s just not fun anymore’”(Washington Post). This can be caused by the fact that parents are playing select ball at early ages such as 7 or 8 years old. Playing competitively in any sport at such can early age can take a huge emotional toll on kids. At such an early age, kids should play these sports for fun and entertainment, not competition.
Children have strived for years to make their parents, teachers and coaches proud of them. Kids have come to practice Monday,Tuesday,Wednesday,Thursday, and Friday to get better, while their academics are suffering. Students have pushed their bodies to the limits, causing extreme injury that will hold them back from sports in the future. Student athletes are not getting the opportunity to play multiple sports during the year, because they are expected to spelize in one sport and focus on it year round, leaving no opportunity to play other sports or do other activities. Youth sports are becoming too intense for young children to keep up with.

To most kids and students, competitive sports are a gateway to blow off some steam or to have fun. To parents, the sports that their children play and the lessons that they teach are an important part of their development and life. Despite what many ‘experts’ would like you to believe, both of these statements are completely true. I believe that kids should be allowed to play competitive sports due to the health benefits, the lessons that they can teach, and as a result of the advanced equipment and rules that are focused on making sports safe, as well as the fact that sports can keep kids out of trouble. One extremely important reason that forces me to take the position that kids should be allowed to compete in competitive sports is the health benefits that children who play sports recieve.

This is mainly due to the many negative impacts that young athletes face when partaking in these sports. Competitive sports involve sports where competition is encouraged, and where winning is more important than anything else. Competing in these sports causes the children to be vulnerable to many risks and many other negative impacts.
In today's society, sports has become a very popular leisure activity and a means of effective physical movement for many young children across the United States. The evidence, publications, and, data on youth sports, has shown and proved the positive effects of children's participation in sports: benefits that ranged from real world applications to personal characteristics. The structure of youth sports aid students in learning the importance of life skills such as teamwork; the development of` a strong sense of morality; and an understanding and appreciation of diversity. Parents are also given the blessing and comfort of their children being statistically least likely to engage in deviant behavior and becoming academically more proficient. Despite the various benefits that children experience through playing sports, there still remains a high amount of students mainly minority students who are unable to participate in sports.

Numbers in kids playing sports has gone down nearly 4 percent from 2009, according to a widely cited survey by the Sports and Fitness Industry Association. Total sports played have plummeted by nearly 10 percent. People were curious why this was happening, so studies were conducted to find out. The researchers found out that there have been added pressures by three main sources, parents, coaches, and self pressure.
From the Friday night lights to the last second goal, school sports are a major part of the high school journey. In fact, according to "Are High School Sports Good For Kids?" by Daniel Gould, Ph.D., over five million students from the United States participate in a school sport. High school sports are a great way for student-athletes to stay healthy, make new friends, and be a part of a team atmosphere. In addition, school sports keep kids off of the streets and lower the athlete's chance of committing a crime. School sports are a tremendous way for student-athletes to create new, meaningful relationships.
