Vincent Herschlein – October Revolution – 17th of March, 2015
The statement "The October Revolution (1917) resulted not from the actions of the Bolsheviks, but from the failure of the Provisional Government." is largely agreeable as the mishandling of military decisions, as well as the socio-political failures of the Provisional Government allowed the Bolsheviks to seize power. However, the October Revolution cannot be entirely attributed to the failures of the Provisional Government, as the Bolshevik’s strategic exploitation of the weaknesses of the Provisional Government also played an important role in the October Revolution.
One of the key failures of the Provisional Government was the staying in WWI. After the Tsar had abdicated the Provisional Government made the decision to stay in WWI. This is arguably the worst decision of the Provisional Government. Russia was losing the war and was large masses of soldiers were dying. This led to war weariness among both soldiers, who believed they were dying in vain, and citizens who were losing family members and experiencing the internal problems caused by the war. This war weariness was further intensified by the food shortages Russia was experiencing. The war also put economic strains on Russia, while Russia received financial support from France and Britain most of the money of the Russian state went to the war effort. This led to both problems internally through strikes and on the front through mutinies. Another huge
Other countries were tense due to Germany's growing military. These contribute to the spark of WW1. The US came into the war due to Germany's U-Boats, Pearl Harbor, and the attack on the US destroyer. France refused to give land and Germany invaded via Belgium. In conclusion, Russia was drawn into WW1 by the idea of imperialism, obtaining more land to gain more power.
In November of 1917, the Bolshevik revolution occurred on the other side of the world. 1. This caused the Germans to shift their troops to the Eastern front. 2. In the spring of 1918, the Allies attacked again.
World War I devastated countries throughout Europe. Economies collapsed and dismantled the way of life for the majority of people, especially in Germany. The Allied powers had blamed them for being the perpetrator of the war and so they punished Germany severally. In the Soviet Union, Joseph Stalin ruled the country with an iron fist that resulted in millions dead and/or starving. In Italy, the country had been promised territory but never received any land.
The war killed and wounded a huge number of potential workers, limiting productive capacities for nascent factories and farms across the country. Additionally, deprived of their guaranteed markets in Great Britain, the new country struggled to find new buyers for the goods it did produce. Inflation, too, was an issue; the new government had printed money and gone into debt to finance its war leaving it in desperate financial straits after winning the peace. The financial pressures on its allies and enemies was also immense. Britain saw dissension after the war, and the French monarch's support of the war caused further debt.
As human beings, we often feel as if we are entitled to change if there are things we do not like about a situation. When looking at the Atlantic revolutions, it is clear that each one started in the hopes to bring change to a country. That doesn’t necessarily always make them successful, but there are some revolutions where change brings good. With that being said some good may still bring bad, in this essay we are going to take a look at the American revolution and address how it established a successful, fortunate ruling of what was rightfully theirs and were able to gain control of their own power as well as see if it fit the “glue” per say on what a revolution should really look like. Through warfare and tactics, we will see the pros and
The name of my revolution was the American Revolution. The American Revolution is the war between Great Britain and its American colonies. The American Revolutionary war also referred to the American revolutionary war of Independence and the Revolutionary war of the United States. The Revolutionary war took place between 1765 and 1783. The American Revolution occurred in a variety of locations across Eastern North America, the Atlantic, and the Caribbean.
There were a lot of average humans that died during the war and a lot of families were hurt. The most important reasons why the war started was because of the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife, secret treaties were signed, and countries were invaded. It all began on June 28, 1914 with the assassination of
In 1917, Tsar Nicholas ll is the current ruler of Russia. Russia’s economic growth is increased by the Czar’s reforms of the production of factories. During this era, Russia desperately needed to keep up with the rest of Europe’s industry. This reform worked perfectly, but the working conditions of these factories didn’t charm factory workers. After the events of the Russo-Japanese War, “Bloody Sunday”, and WW1, Russia was in utter chaos under the Czar’s ghastly leadership.
This treaty was one of the important treaties signed in Russian history, as it would mean that the war between Russia and Germany would come to a stop. Germany decided to turn down taking over the country, hence leading Lenin to pay a high price. Germany had high demands from Russia. Nonetheless, Lenin knew he had to save Russia from mass murders he decided to sign the treaty at any cost. Russia gave away 74% of iron ore and coal, 26% of railways, 27% of farmland, and 26% of the
How revolutionary was the revolution? Based on the information in the 10 documents I believe that the revolution was not very revolutionary. The word revolutionary means involving or causing a dramatic change. I strongly believe that the revolution was not very revolutionary because the changes it made were not very dramatic or strong and a lot of the things from that time stayed the same after the war ended.
Separatism Separatism was a nationwide concept and a movement for the Quebecois francophones. The francophones of Quebec feared losing their French language and culture. This was a long-lasting fear and essentially lead to the belief that Sovereignty was the only way to maintain what they feared of losing. Though Separatism is mainly throughout the years if 1980-1990 ,to achieve the freedom the Francophones wanted, a number of events occurred earlier on.
The war could’ve just been a spat between Austria-Hungary and Serbia if Russia hadn’t been so eager to protect the other countries, like Serbia, they had an ethnic tie with. Although there are many possible reasons for the war, militarism, imperialism, and alliances are the main three with alliances being the most main reason. Militarism and imperialism riled up the countries, making them angry and afraid, but alliances really pushed the countries over the edge into the war. It all just piled up into one big, bad heap of hatred that spurred the countries
American Revolution While reading the article “The American Revolution” and watching the video “making a Revolution”, I learn that revolutions have many different interpretations but some people though it is just a change of government. Revolution is not a change of government but it is a fundamental change in the society and social relationships. Revolution is not a simple thing. The Americans in the 1760s, 1770s were ripe for the revolution. At that that people loved to be English.
After Serbia appealed to Russia for help, the czar’s government began moving towards mobilization of its army, believing that Germany was using the crisis as an excuse to launch a preventive war in the Balkans. Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia on July 28. On August 1, after hearing news of Russia’s general mobilization, Germany declared war on Russia. The German army then launched its attack on Russia’s ally, France, through Belgium, violating Belgian neutrality and bringing Great Britain into the war as well.
Therefore, in 1912, Germany began preparations to enact major war that could (hopefully) be blamed on Russia. Considering Russia would have completed its military armament and railroads by 1917, Germany realized they needed to strike sooner rather than later – they needed to maximize their own
