Although being away from home can be uncomfortable, its essential to develop independency, interpersonal skills, and leadership over self and others. The first time I traveled away from my home for an extended period of time I was the age of thirteen. My parents thought it was a good idea for me to understand structure and discipline outside of what they taught me. They decided a military academy program was proficient and introduced me to the idea a week or so before I was shipped off. At the time I refused to see the benefits I might receive from this but what I learned in those six and a half weeks helped shaped who I am today, starting with how I learned about independency. Independency is one of the most important things I learned in my …show more content…
I believe this because it has been the thing that has shaped my life to the point that it is now. I came to see that leadership is in all areas of life and is crucial to maintaining a successful lifestyle. For example, the instructors at Wentworth would force upon us seemingly impossible tasks and group builders. One of which involved two platforms suspended in the air, three planks, and our objective to build a bridge crossing point A to point B. We had no rope to tie the boards and no additional equipment to use besides what we had immediately available. We struggled to find a way to secure the planks and create a stable platform to walk-or sprint- across. After a while we seemed to exhaust all available options when the idea came to use our belts ( to supplement our lack of rope). Our plan Z idea turned out useful as we completed the task and moved on-dreadfully-to the next objective. What I got from this is you always have the power to quit what you’re doing and say it’s impossible, or instead you lead yourself and those around you and do what’s considered impossible. With the leadership role that I took part in at Wentworth- and not just this situation-I learned that leadership is a very crucial thing to
I'm a cautious person. Before this summer I had never stepped outside of my comfort zone. The longest I had been away from my family was for a week in the fifth grade when my entire class went to camp, and even then I was surrounded by familiar faces and friends. That is why when I was awarded the honor to attend the American Legion Auxiliary Girls' State camp, I was wary of experiencing such a big change. After being dropped off at the MSU dorms on the first day I was left with a HUGE feeling of angst and dread.
I can’t even vote yet, so how can I be what the so-labeled adults call independency? Sure, we learned about it in 4th grade social studies class and in 5th grade global studies and again in 6th grade government class. So what if it was important? By that time, I was DONE with learning about America; I wanted to leave it.
I have attended several leadership camps and seminars, but there is always room for improvement in regards to leadership abilities. Having a higher leadership role than what I already have will significantly improve my knowledge of leadership and better refine the leadership skills that I already have. There are a lot of
Also, one of my top personal core values is independence. This one is
I believe that it takes people with the right qualities in order to lead and manage successfully. Throughout time and history, great leaders have developed nations and destroyed nations. One can glance through the history books and be immersed with details of these great leaders. For instance, Martin Luther King (MLK) Junior, was able to rally tens of thousands
Leadership is a joint effort by both the people and the leader and should be treated as such. With this collaborativeness we can successfully work as a nation just as the Leadership video stated. “Leadership provides people with a sense of security. Good leaders work with the people and ensure that they are safe…” (Source G) Understanding that the people come first and that all should work together is the first step to a properly functioning society.
Leadership, as per my understanding, could mean leading others to rediscover themselves by providing guidance, not through what-to-do lists, so they would reach the necessary urge to reach a better state personally and professionally. During Dorsch employment, I have noticed great potentials in my colleague; I convinced him to switch jobs from a drafting person to a civil engineer, by presenting the textbooks and resources needed, guiding him along the transition phase and by presenting, through examples, how easily could be the learning process and transition. Along my career, I lead my colleagues to produce integrated solutions, by creating the urge to know the answers of different what-if scenarios for their solutions; I bring textbooks and tools to convince them; I present examples of what should be done, the benefits of efforts done and the consequences of careless isolated solutions. Not only one colleague now is persuading her dreams by studying post graduate in Netherlands, but also she got an award to be distinguished;
This definition of Leadership is best restated by my very own father “A person can demonstrate leadership skills even when not in a leadership position.” Throughout my high school years so far, I have demonstrated leadership mostly in the field of Boy Scouting in two different Troops. I started out my leadership trail in Boy Scouting by becoming a Troop Scribe who as per se the Boy Scout Handbook, 2016 Edition “The Scribe attends and keeps a log of patrol leaders’ council meetings. He records attendance and dues payments of all troop members and records advancement in troop records and on the troop advancement chart.” After that, I ascended into becoming a Patrol Leader and then acting as a Senior Patrol Leader, the highest youth leader of the troop, handling all patrols’ affairs and coordinating with the Scoutmaster for advice and consent.
I have developed leadership qualities when my Tae Kwon Do coach trusted me to lead our team during national championships. This has led me to then hold various leadership positions in undergraduate and dental school clubs. Moreover, my critical thinking abilities have excelled from being a mathematics and physics tutor. Tutoring has always challenged me to think outside the box in complicated problems, and this would allow me to use my creative skills when facing complex cases in my field. Persistence is another key element that is crucial in success.
During the duration of this course I have learned many things about technology and how it is now tied to education. Looking back at the Literacy Checklist, I have found two subjects I need to work on and two subjects I feel I have mastered a greater understanding of. The first subject I need to work on is being able to describe the P21 criteria for preparing 21st century learners. I do not understand this as strongly as hoped, although I will continue to learn more about the P21 criteria and 21st century learner as I achieve my educational and professional goals.
Your leadership is reflected in your actions. Not only does this type of leadership show that you believe in the power of yourself and that your way is an effective way to lead, but it also shows how you follow the expectations you set for
I have gained important leadership skills because at a very young age I had to become a mom. A mom to my own siblings, my parents had troubles with jobs and alcholism. In a big city alone I had to learn on my own how to keep my siblings behaved and nutured. My leadership skills kept expanding through out elementary. As I wasn't afraid to speak my mind and do actions upon myself.
Furthermore, a study made by Amit et al about leadership-shaping experience found that a group of soldiers who had more leadership experiences were perceived to be leaders compared to those who did not . This points to the fact that exercises in self-development and discipline were key to building leadership qualities. Leaders as mentioned before are role-models in society and when those leadership qualities are nurtured, the society as a whole benefits from them.
From my point of view , Leadership has more to it than I can possibly imagine. I define leadership as the art of enabling a group of people get to a specific destination. As a leader your main focus was to enable your followers lead theselves. As i think deeper i realise a person cannot choose to be a leader. I think a lot of the time people take on leadership positions without knowing.
In recent times, such supernatural explanations have given way to more rational explanations. Current definitions of leadership identify it as a social-influence process. It is said to be ‘the process of influencing group activities towards the accomplishment of goals in a given situation.’ Leadership is the process of influencing others towards the accomplishment of goals. Leadership more importantly, more importantly, more importantly, more importantly, more
