You may believe that competitive sports are not good for kids because they are at a high risk for injuries and they can cause kids to have a higher stress level than kids that don’t play sports. I think that kids should be involved in competitive sports because it teaches kids how to live a healthier lifestyle, gives you more opportunities later in life and it gives you the opportunity to have fun! And not just sporting opportunities such as professional sports teams and scholarships but, you are able to use the skills that you learned playing in sports in your job, and just overall in everyday life. Competitive sports teach you the basic important life skills that will help you throughout your lifetime. You will be able to take criticism, learn how to win and lose gracefully, build character, learn and practice social skills and lastly build friendships with other people. Research shows, however that it is easier for kids to learn these skills through sports. Some kids might have troubles learning these skills so competitive sports can help improve these skills for
I completely agree with the concerns that she raises that the current trend of these competitive sport is not healthy for the children. At such a young age they are being taught that winning is the only possibility and defeating the other team is all that matter. Parents and coaches not only support it but teach their children these things as well. This kind of mindset can have a really bad impact on a child’s mind. I am of the same opinion as Jessica that children should not be exposed to this type of environment as this the time when their whole personality is being shaped up.
In competitive sports, you can learn to overcome to odds, how to interact with people as well to be modest. If I were to play hockey just for fun I probably wouldn’t have the same views and values towards sports. If I had kids I would definitely want to put them into competitive sports, wouldn’t
A major reason is that sports keep kids healthy. R. Dawn Comstock, an investigator at the Center for Injury Research and Policy stated “We have an epidemic of obesity in this country, and sports is one of the ways for kids to incorporate exercise in their lives” (qtd. in Perkel 2) . Most kids don’t get active anymore.
Have you ever wanted to live an active and healthy life, as well as an improvement in grades? I believe youth sports will help all of those problems and many more. Most sports are team sports that also teach your child teamwork. Playing youth sports is a terrific experience for you or your child. There are many reasons why I feel that children should play youth sports.
Colin Powell once said,”A dream doesn’t become reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination and hard work.” These are important because one should work hard to get what they want. High school athletes should have to keep a certain GPA in order to play sports. This will help them balance and prioritize their schedules, motivate them to keep their grades up, and remind them of their priorities at school. If athletes learn to properly proportion their schedules, then they’ll know how much time they need to get their homework done and will be aware of how much time they have for sports.
Contact sports are the reason kids are getting hurt. Contact sports are good for kids. The Federal and state government should stop kids under 10 to stop playing contact sports because 45% of kids under 10 getting hurt are from contact sports and 5% of the time its ending that kids chances to play sports in the feature, Not to mention contact sports can also make kids go to their fullest and being burned out and although contact provide some kids will useful tools in life most of the time there is more negative than positive.
The first reason why kids should not play competitive sports is that it can cause injuries. Many kids who play
The amount of children participating in competitive sports has been on a steady decline in the past decade. Between the years of 2008 and 2013, the total number of children participating in competitive sports has dropped by approximately 2.6 million. This is mainly due to the many negative impacts that young athletes face when partaking in these sports. Competitive sports involve sports where competition is encouraged, and where winning is more important than anything else. Competing in these sports causes the children to be vulnerable to many risks and many other negative impacts.
Children are playing just to win and the real spirit of the game fades out. (Word count: 196) Response I strongly agree with the point of Jessica Statsky in “Children Need to Play, Not Compete”. The way Statsky explains the facts by referring to other people is not questionable. The parents forcefully ask their children to join sports for the development of their bodies and mind.
Playing a sport of any kind can help the development of your character positively. The involvement of sports can make a person grow to be more responsible, help form friendships and relationships, and learn self-discipline. Whatever sport a person is involved in can be a learning opportunity and can help grow your character. The qualities that you develop on a court or field present themselves in reality with time. One characteristic that can be earned from playing sports is responsibility.
Competitive sports provide a community which kids can work with and beat other teams with. “Playing a sport helps children develop social skills which would benefit them even when they grow older. Playing sports teaches them about teamwork and cooperating with others. They learn to interact with people from different ages” (Mahaseth). When these kids grow up, they can use these skills to be able to cooperate and talk with their colleagues.
In this day and age with professional athletes being at the top of the social spectrum, youth sports have gotten very popular. “More than 26 million children ages 6 to 17 played team sports in 2014(Rosenwald).” Youth sports are very popular because it brings the great feeling of being on a team. When you are on a team you feel like you can do anything together, and nothing is stopping you. There are also many flaws in youth sports.
The first reason we shouldn’t let kids play sports is kids have died from sports. In just 2009, 2 kids died from multiple collisions to the head and still in 2009, 17 kids died from heat strokes while playing sports. In most sports there is danger around whether it be a hard ball or physical contact in any way. It's all dangerous.
The author Thelma Gomez, says “Playing sports is an important elemen5t in the lives of many American children.” And she is correct. Sports can make kids the next David Wright, the next LeBron James, the next Eli Manning, or the next Lionel Messi. The best part of sports is that you're improving your physical health, psychological health, social skills, and academic benefits. Physical and phychological health can benefit a child in many ways.
Some people don’t know the benefits of playing competitive sports, but After reading my essay I think you now know most of the benefits and maybe from now you might see competitive sports in a different way. Playing competitive sports matters because it has a huge impact on your life. If you are a parent reading this easy I think you should allow your child to join and play competitive sports it important that children stay healthy. For kids not everyone is good at all sports but is better for kid join and try out new things and remember it’s not all about winning but it’s also about
