Think about yourself sitting in class and you start talking without raising your hand. The teacher gets mad at you and sends you to the office. While you are in the office you get a spanking with a wooden paddle from the principal. You would get embarrassed in front of your friends and get in trouble at home also. There isn’t really anything good about spanking kids in school, and it actually makes student behavior worse than it was before. For very important reasons I believe spanking in school should not be allowed. To begin with, spanking kids in school could be a form of abuse and is not right. A student in an elementary school in Texas was spanked once in class and then taken into a different room and spanked more. The students never agreed for their kid to be spanked at school (Paddling, Corporal Punishment & Child Abuse). Female students are more likely to be spanked than boys. Students that are spanked tend to do worse academically and become victims of bullying. One in six adults says that when they were kids that they had at least one very hard spanking in school (Abuse Affects …show more content…
African American boys are 2.1 times more likely to be spanked than white boys, and Native American boys are 3.2 times more likely to be spanked than white boys. In Mississippi, 5,831 disabled students were spanked in one school year. One girl with autism was spanked and then put in a closet when she was in kindergarten. Nationwide, boys make up 78.3 percent of the children who are paddled and girls make up 21.7 percent (The Use Of Corporal Punishment Against Certain Groups). A third-grade African American boy was spanked twelve times for chewing gum and a person heard the boy scream every time he was spanked. Spanking children is bad enough already but spanking someone because of something they can’t help, such as skin color or a disability is even
From my own personal experiences, some unruly children only respect a firm spanking with the law prohibiting this practice of parenting it can cause children to go down the wrong path because they don’t have the proper respect for their parents which is where children are supposed to learn respect for an authoritative figure. As the snippet of the comment from Allison, 2014 would suggest it is necessary to spank a child this is evident when the text states “Many of the parenting books that dismissed spanking as wrong pushed that a parent should reason with a child. However, science has proven that due to brain development, it is impossible to reason with a four-year-old.
Spanking is good for the mind because it teaches children. The author also states that a study shows that people who are spanked perform better at school and is most likely to want to college than their peers who had never been physically disciplined. Also stated in the article, research lack much info because it was difficult to find subjects who had never been spanked. In the study that was conducted it shows that results that others do not show because it involved 2600 individuals that never been spanked. It was difficult in more traditional time to find subjects.
Positive parents- child relationship, or healthy social skills for success in life” ( “ Corporal Punishment is ineffective and Abusive”). When kids get abused they get scared and they are scared to do anything in the fear of what will happen. Kids get scared so much and they don't want to talk or communicate with anyone. “ More disturbingly, the study also found a link between spanking and antisocial behavior aggression, mental health problems and cognitive disabilities-- effects that continue into adulthood” (Perry).Spanking found to have many problems so kids won't develop with this problem if the parents don't physically punish the kids. Many kids feel alone and scared.
Introduction Corporal Punishment is seen as a corrective process where a person in authority such as teacher, principal, or even a parent uses force such as smacking, punching, kicking, spanking, etc to correct being disobedient. Literature Review Corporal punishment remains a highly controversial topic in the United States today, mainly because it usually involves the use of physical contact to “correct” disciplinary issues. (Essex) The U.S. Supreme Court ruling of the Ingraham v. Wright that corporal punishment did not violate constitution rights. Leaving the decision up to states and school districts to enforce it.
The subject of spanking a child is and has been discussed and researched by many. This form of punishment or redirecting a bad behavior has been used probably since the beginning of time. Does spanking always work? I think that most of the time it will but some kids are BAD. When I was a child I got spanked but not often (because I was a good child) and when I did it was after my mother had lost her patients with me.
In the article Grogan-Kaylor states “The upshot of the study is that spanking increases the likelihood of a wide variety of undesired outcomes for children. Spanking thus does the opposite of what parents usually want it to do.” Not only did Gershoff and Grogan-Kaylor test on children but also on long-term effects among adults who were also spanked as a child. This showed that the more they were spanked, the more likely they experienced mental health problems or behavior problems. As many as 80 percent of parents around the world spank their children according to a 2014 UNICEF

Although, I did not enjoy receiving spankings from my aunt’s husband, I do believe spankings can be effective, especially since pain is a basic motivator for driving behavior, when the objective is clear and reasonable force is used. Berger states
As they grow up to a certain age, kids might start smoking, sneak out of the house and do other immoral meretricious actions as an outcome to get even with their family for previously spanking them. Some brats that are daily spanked may even get to the point where they would want to retaliate from the person that is usually spanking them. Spanking a kid may also affect a kid’s education and mean of interaction in a society. Researchers and psychologist point that kids being spanked may develop learning disorder, difficulties to stay focused, and lack creativity.
Many people think that the reason for this is easily described as “if you hold the reins too tight, the horse will buck.” Over punishing a child can be a bad thing, it will make the child want to retaliate more so than if one were to cut a little slack. However, under punishing a child can be bad as well, not teaching a child right from wrong can majorly increase the odds of the child doing the wrong thing. Reasons that parents give for spanking their children are to make children listen better, and to encourage better behavior, especially to put a stop to children's aggressive behaviors. Research shows, however, that spanking, or indeed any form of physical punishment, tends to have the opposite effect.
Spanking has been used for years to show kids right from wrong. Over the years, studies have been conducted to see the true harms and effects of what spanking really does to a child. There are two articles for spanking written by Matt Walsh and Robert Larzelere, and one article against spanking written by Murray Straus. Larzelere, Straus, and Walsh argue whether parents should spank their children as a form of punishment by using credibility, logos, and pathos.
Spanking is used widely around the world as a form of discipline towards a child; however, some people say this action may be considered child abuse. According to childhelp.org, child abuse can be defined as when, “a parent or caregiver, whether through action or failing to act, causes injury, death, emotional harm or risk of serious harm to a child.” Child maltreatment can come in the forms of neglect, physical abuse, sexual abuse, exploitation and emotional abuse. However, spanking does not fall under the category of child abuse because it does not cause serious injury or long-term emotional abuse.
