Where the Red Fern Grows is about a kid and his two dogs. The kids name is Billy and he lives on a farm. This book is mainly about a kid who is trying really hard to get two new dogs which he saw in a newspaper. He really has wanted dogs for a while and found some for a good price. Billy wants two new dogs very badly, but his grandpa can’t afford them. Billy has to try really hard to make money so he can buy them. He starts selling fruit and bait to fisherman. He eventually gets enough money to buy the dogs and he gives the money to his grandpa who buys them for him. Billy doesn 't have anyone to pick up the dogs for him because they are in a different town so he snuck off by himself to get them. On his way home, he and his dogs sleep

Billy was Born in England around 1819 as he grew up he Worked with his father as a waterman cutting and logging trees, and working for a sawmill. In 1845 railroads started taking over and the work slowed down in England Billy was losing jobs and money became scarce so he went to North America in search of a new job to keep his funds up. In 1850 Billy worked on a California gold mine in a small town called Lillooet, not having much luck in finding gold so in 1862 Billy barker moved to the area near Richfield to work on several mines that he owned. As Billy worked there he found no gold or any signs, Billy was tired of being unsuccessful so he looked in a canyon where Baskerville now lays, everyone thought he was being silly and called him weird for thinking there was gold down there.

As soon as Billy gets them home, he begins training them to coon hunt. Billy trains his dogs so well that they become some of the best hunting dogs in the area.

The film Red Dog, is a story about loyalty and mateship. Its directed by Kriv Stenders, the site is located in the Western Australia in a town call Dampier and is based upon a true story. A statue in memory of Red Dog can be found on the road into Dampier today. Usally people chose an animal to be their pet, but thats not the case for Red Dog. Red Dog choose john to be his master, John is a citizens of Dampier and a bus drive.
“Where the Red Fern grows,” is a book and a movie. The movie and the book has the same scenes but the movie is missing some details. The book has more narration than the movie. The book in my opinion feels like I am there. It draws me in more than the movie does.
In both the versions Billy goes to England for a job, “Find your lodgings he had said and then go along and report to the branch manager as soon as you go yourself settled” (1). This quote was said by Mr. Greenslade at the head office telling Billy to go to Bath, England, and then report to the branch manager. The screenwriter keeps this because Billy needs a place to stay and it sets up the scene for Billy to find the landlady. Another similarity in the stories is The landlady has taxidermied animals. For instance, in the versions Billy says how when he first saw the bird through the window he thought the stuffed bird was alive.

Then suddenly there was a loud bang and dogs took off in every direction. Left and right, this way and that way. Into the forest and through the fields.
