On July 20, 2012, a terrible tragedy had taking place in aurora Colorado inside the century movie theater. This tragedy happened during the midnight screening of the film the dark knight rises which is based off the excerpts of the marvel character batman. A person walked into the theater, exploded tear gas grenades, and used guns to shoot into the audience killing twelve people and injuring 70 others. The person that did this horrible act was a man by the name of James Eagan Holmes, and he was arrested right outside of the century movie theater. Colorado has experienced this type of act before when going through the columbine high school shooting in 1999 but this was the deadliest act of violence since then. The shooting ultimately happened …show more content…
The notebook that was retrieved but never brought up in court should be permissible as evidence even though it was thrown out. That is clear and outright evidence that James Holmes was thinking about carrying out this mass shooting. After pleading it to his psychiatrist, the psychiatrist should have placed Holmes on a close level of watch and told the police and anybody else that should have been notified. In my opinion, if Holmes had actually told his psychiatrist that he was thinking about such a violent act, the psychiatrist is placed on a level of blame as well. This could have been put to a stop long before the mass shooting ever occurred. No person, mentally ill or not mentally ill, should ever take the life of 12 people and injure 70 plus people and think they will get away with it just because of a mentally insane defense plea. The youngest person that was injured in this shooting was a 4-month-old boy that was not initially shot but was injured during the shooting. Also a mother was critically injured during the attack, which led to a miscarriage. Now that is enough evidence to me, because of this shooter, a mother was not able to have her baby because she was critically injured from the attack. A baby’s life was taken away because of the selfish and narcissistic values James Holmes had portrayed. This country revolves around altruism and doing things for the greater good. James Holmes does not fit into that category so, in my opinion, I think he should be guilty as charged and either given the death penalty or at least given a sentence of life in
Columbine: The Truth No One Wants To Hear What happens before, during, and after a tragedy no one saw coming? To this day the United States of America still mourns the loss of people who gave their lives to help people and the people who got them taken away by the terrorists that sought out to harm innocent citizens and caused the tragedy on September 11th, 2001, but what determines if something gets remembered or not? It’s preventable-ness, it’s impact on the days after, or is it if the tragedy is caused by an outside source? 9/11 was a large event that made national headlines, this affected people on a national scale. Let’s shrink the size of thing from the large city of New York and focus on the small town of Littleton, Colorado 2 years prior to 9/11.
David Benjamin Mrs. Brenner’s Class Period 7 English 8th Advanced 31 March 2015 The Sandy Hook Massacre Many young people have been diagnosed with depression; they show feelings of depression through acting out and bullying. The extreme example of this is hurting others through the use of weapons and force.
The author’s tone in this quote is violent and bitter. Eric saying that he “hated almost everyone “, would support the reader’s thinking towards what kind of person Eric is, and what Eric is thinking. Eric’s use of language almost immediately gives the reader a hint of what he is capable of, not in the sense that he would literally “rip is head off and eat it” but in the sense that he is capable of doing bad things. Given the fact that people throughout the United States have already heard of the mass shooting in Columbine, the reader would promptly identify Eric as the killer and they would be right. The author’s purpose could be to keep the reader thinking: who is the killer? , but also help the reader predict how will the killer’s next plans
Mass killing (murder) is defines as the act of murdering several or more people, typically simultaneously or over a relatively short period of time. The Boston Marathon Bombing and the massacre in South Carolina is two events that will never be forgetting in American history. Both massacres had huge impacts in the United States. Hundreds of people was affected by both massacres; leaving friends and families without their love ones. How can someone have this much hate to just go and kill/hurt a large amount of people?

The aforementioned article describes the debate occurring regarding the Texas massacre and the gun violence associated with it. 26 people were killed in the shooting, however the perpetrator himself soon became one of the many victims of a fatal gunshot wound and soon killed himself after being chased down. The population seems to have reached a divide where they are unsure whether this adds to or takes away from the constitution of the right to own guns. President Donald Trump claimed that the act was the work of a disabled man and that if Devin Patrick Kelley, the perpetrator, had not been shot, there would have been many more casualties. Meanwhile, those who oppose the second amendment persist in using this situation to dispute gun rights,
Mental illness is one of the reasons why people did these mass shootings. In Virginia Tech, the shooter had mental illness, and yet the shooter bought a gun; then killed 32 students. Not only in Virginia Tech, but in Columbine, Sandy Hook, and Aurora shooters were all diagnosed with mental illness. The Federal Government need to come up with mental illness screenings to prevent these tragedies. Mental illness is serious issue, because it impacts a person's thinking, feeling, or mood.
Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold went on a school shooting spree in Littleton, Colorado. Their catch phrase became, “Do you believe in God?” (Johnson, 2012). Multiple students were asked this simple question and killed if they answered yes. Harris and Klebold changed education from coast to coast in the United States with the massacre they carried out that morning in April of 1999.
This article has great viewpoints, use of argumentative reasoning, and shows what truly happens in the hallways of a school shooting. The main person he explains is Eric Harris, who killed over two-thousand students and faculty in a Colorado high school in 1998. He set off bombs all over the school and used a semi-automatic
A human thrives off of attention, even the shy introvert begs for it. Most Americans and people around the world watch other people make history and become infamous for acts of courage and acts of deceit. Whether a person goes down in infamy or goes down with tremendous honor, this person has altered history forever. In reality the world has heroes and villains, and these real life villains thrive for heed. The increase in mass shootings starts with the shooter’s addiction to fame and the chance of becoming notorious for their dishonorable deed.
How would you react to a school shooting? Most people’s first reaction would be terrified and worried. Most would question why someone would do something like that. Columbine High School was one of the biggest high school shootings. Two teenage boys by the names Dylan and Eric were the ones responsible for the massacre.
Dave Cullen lived in Chicago (Dave Cullen) when he published the book, Columbine in April of 2009. When writing the book, Cullen wanted to tell people about Eric and Dylan, the assailants of the Columbine shooting. Cullen’s directed the book towards all ages, who are interested in why Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold commited the crime. Cullen saw the news about the shootings, he then decided to drive to the school to see what was happening. (CS Staff)
So with all these kids dying wouldn't you agree that we need better mental health support, so we can prevent all these shootings? I believe that if we had good and strong mental health support services in the USA then tragic events like Columbine H.S. & Sandy Hook would probably never happen. That is why I am supporting for the USA to talk more about how to create more mental health support programs to help prevent gun violence events. Through reading “Columbine: Whose Fault is It?” by Marilyn Manson we can identify that the media had a great influence in the aftermath of the shooting, and who was the scapegoat for it, in other words who is to blame for what happened to those poor 13 innocent teenage kids. The Columbine High School massacre was an infamous event that went down as one of the worst shootings to happen to a high school in America. In 1999, a pair of two students named Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold decided to assault a school in Colorado named Columbine High School. Their intent was unknown, and because of that, many people started speculating as to why the duo decided to shoot up the school.
