When I started here at the Non Commissioned Officer Academy I was aware that I had weaknesses like not being personable or picking the wrong times to try and work something out, but thru the Course 15 material and research I found five concepts that were important to me and how I could improve on them. I started with interpersonal communication and how I need to be more personable with everyone in my work center and really listen to what they have to say, so I can get to know them better as a person. To build further, I looked at the three elements of adaptability and how the fact that I have a strong dispositional flexibility which in turn will help me strengthen the other two by keeping that positive attitude. I then looked into cultural …show more content…
So how I believe that I am perceived right now in my work center by all levels is that I come to work, I know how to do my job well and that I like to keep to myself most of the time, but with these changes I will be talking about below over the next three to five years will be more favorable to me as a leader. The Airmen that I supervise or mentor now are the ones who should benefit the most by the changes that I am trying to work on, being mindful of interpersonal communication along with cultural diversity and a good discipline model should be the key to being that supervisor that they both respect and want to talk with. Getting and giving feedback at the correct times will be a big help towards understanding the ripeness and readiness and using all three elements of adaptability is how I will get there. Thru the next three to five years my goal for my Airmen is to give them a supervisor they both trust and want to follow, I want to be giving them feedback on a regular basis and really I would like all of them to be instructors. I believe getting to know them better as the people they are will help me to both keep them out of trouble and better gauge for when they are ready to start that upgrade training. Teaching them the tools I have been given in the three elements of flexibility along with readiness and …show more content…
How I plan to do this over the next few years is by teaching them the lessons I have learned here and asking for help in the areas I am weak in so not only will I be able to help them become a well-rounded leader but I will become a stronger leader as well. It all starts with that interpersonal communication getting to know them and understanding their culture and interests and asking them in situations what they would do from the discipline model to help out there Airmen to better understand how they lead. Learning from them is just as important to be ready for any situation because we have all had different career paths and those who are usually the strongest are the ones who have been thru it and knowing that right time to act could be critical. This is also where I can seek more feedback from my peers to see if I am using more of the cognitive and emotional flexibility and to be accepting of that change and actively listening to them when they are trying
1. How would your subordinates describe you as a leader? My subordinates would describe me as the type of leader who encourage them to succeed. In addition, my subordinates would describe me the type of leader who enforce them to be proficient at their jobs by learning Air Force publications and instructions. Lastly, my subordinates would describe me as the type of leader who strives to help mold them into military professionals.
I would like to return the favor by offering the same help and guidance to new players, that the team leaders did before me. All in all, being a leader is a large part of my life and it has taught me many things. Things like setting an example and staying dedicated come with being a leader. Even though having these responsibilities has its pros and cons, I will continue to strive to lead well in everything I
As for my leadership I hope to improve on what I have already. Being a leader on sports teams before I have learned a few things. One is that being a leader is never about yourself, it 's about getting everyone involved and listening to what others have to say. Also even though you are called a leader doesn 't mean you know everything, so if you’re ever stuck on a hard decision fine some help; never stop learning. I make sure I always remember these two things for my leadership.
The Keck Geology Consortium is dedicated to enhancing the diversity of future scientific communities and sharing our science with a broader audience. Please describe how you, based on your personal background and life experiences (including social, cultural, familial, educational, or other opportunities or challenges) will contribute to this mission during and after participation in a Keck research project. Six years ago, I made the life-changing decision to join my local 4-H club. At the time, I didn’t realize just how valuable this experience would be and what an impact it would have on my life.
Army Doctrine Publication 6-22 (2012) says," A leader stewards the profession to maintain professional standards and effective capabilities for the future" (pg.8). These are standards constantly refined and implemented throughout the force. This part of the vision allows for those trusted leaders of character to exemplify what it truly means to be an NCO and continue its legacy while simultaneously building upon it. Self-development is the key to this line of effort. Through the established means of competitive boards, expert action badges from challenging courses, and the gaining of character development along the way.
Leadership Philosophy Chief Petty Officers owe to their organizations a sound understanding of leadership. Senior Enlisted Leaders (SEL’s) are retained in the military primarily to serve as leaders who effectively maximize the efforts of others so the Navy and Coast Guard can achieve its goals. Effective leaders in the chief’s mess set the tone and are visible amongst the command while constantly leading by example. This paper will explain the author’s leadership philosophy, refer to several influential leaders throughout his career, and incorporate three leadership behaviors from the Leadership Practices Inventory (LPI) feedback. Leadership Influences

I believe leadership is a relationship. The relationship with supervisors, subordinates, and peers is an ongoing process that takes practice to become a better leader. Along with practice we must re-evaluate our leadership philosophy throughout our careers. Upon my own re-evaluation I am renewing my aspiration and commitment to our team. I expect to focus on listening to everyone for their value added to the team, learning from all of our experiences, then lead by challenging the process and promoting a common
In addition to Student Council, I am responsible and dependable as a student and fellow peer. However, the reason why I feel I need to improve my leadership is because I need to demonstrate more leadership within the classroom. I will do this by speaking up more, offering opinions, giving feedback to the teachers on common issues all the students are facing, and so
It is easy to doubt your abilities and it is immensely helpful to have understanding, relatable friends/coworkers to turn to. I hope to be just like the returning RAs my starting year: open-minded, optimistic, reliable, honest, and determined. Being mindful of the needs I had, and adjusting to theirs, is important to me. “Lead by example” is my favorite type of leadership, because I feel that it is so effective. It means to be confident in your own values and decisions to lead without having to worry about teaching to others orally.
Introduction The diversity issue I experienced that I feel relate to these theories was Social Identify Theory. “Social identity theory is a cognitive social psychological theory that originated in Europe… It provides the connection between social structures and individual identity through the meanings people attach to their membership in identity groups such as those formed by race, ethnicity, or gender” (Mor Barak, 2014, p. 163).
The three skills are Leads, Develops, and Achieves. I try to use this method of leadership when leading others I influence and motivate them to pursue the goal. Also by leading from the form and doing setting the standard. Secondly, when developing my subordinates, I try to implement a positive environment so that all my soldiers can flourish and work as a team. A positive environment helps encourage soldiers to take the initiative and may cause them to want to work harder to gain more individual responsibility.
Be aware of who is above you in your hierarchy structure. It helps avoid going outside of your chain of command and to eliminate any potential obstacles you may come into contact with. If at any time you feel your current leadership is not helpful or causing more problems than usual, you should ask to be lead by someone else who better suits you. The Army defines leadership as “Influencing people by providing purpose, direction, and motivation while operating to accomplish the mission and improving the organization.” Douglas McCarther says "A true leader has the confidence to stand alone, the courage to make tough decisions, and the compassion to listen to the needs of others.
Build on your weaknesses - Take on one stretch target in an area you need to develop. Ask a team member competent in this area to help you. Remember to return the favour. To lead, know that it is ALL your responsibility - Once you have achieved the last two, think of the entire goal as your responsibility.
