The Heroic Traits of Odysseus The epic poem written by Homer, The Odyssey, is about Odysseus who is a well soldier and commander in the Trojan War. The war lasted for ten years. Odysseus is ready to go home to his wife, Penelope and son, Telemachus, but many obstacles come his way. Odysseus exemplifies being a hero through the acts of leadership, being strategic, and being intelligent on his journey home to Ithaca. Homer in the epic poem writes the life of Odysseus who exemplifies being a hero in such situations with remarkable leadership that he uses to return to Ithaca with his men. Throughout the journey Odysseus and his men encounter multiple obstacles and many near death experiences, but thanks to the leader Odysseus, the men escape from them. Odysseus is a hero because as a leader he can properly execute a group to do an action. Leadership is very important when it comes to being a hero. Leadership is what guides people. Heroes and villains both have leadership, but the only difference is that hero’s lead the proper path. Odysseus uses strategies as a hero to overcome the obstacles that come his way. Strategies help guide people to find ways to overcome their obstacles which shows how strategies are important for a hero. Heroes and villains have their strategies but the hero’s are the ones who plan and execute their strategies properly. Last but not least Odysseus has lots of intelligence as a hero and that is because he has the ability to think quickly about what to do. Intelligence is also important when it comes to a hero.
