Gun Control A country without violence would be a great place. Gun violence is the number 1 cause of casualties in the USA, but it’s the person behind the trigger who does the damage. Guns are weapons, but not all weapons are used for harm. I believe gun violence is an issue, but won’t be controlled by stricter gun laws. Gun violence can’t be be controlled in the United States. “If public opinion doesn’t demand change in congress, it will not change” (Obama, 2014). Even if the public demands change it doesn’t mean change will happen. “74% of Americans say the right to own a gun is essential to their freedom’ (McCarthy, 2017). The public should have a say on whether or not they want more gun control. With guns citizens feel more safe. “Poverty
1st Amendment: The First Amendment of the United States Constitution states that “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridg-ing the freedom of speech, or of the press, or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.” In short, this amendment prohibits the establishment of a state religion, protects freedom of the press and speech, and protects the right to assemble and petition the government. The establishment clause enforces the separation of church and state and prohibits the government from restricting a citizen’s religious practices and forbids the government from forcing religion onto its citizens.
Gun violence is a constant problem in the United States of America. It has affected society and out youth negatively in the past and will continue to affect the country as a whole if nothing is done about it. The country is in mourning due to the recent influx of gun violence related crimes. There are common-sense reforms that either side can agree on. These include improvements to backgrounds checks, revisions of the Second Amendment that accommodate the modern innovations to firearms and reinstating the Center for Disease Control's research on gun violence.
“On March 10, 2009, Michael Kenneth McClendon, 28, shot and killed ten people in a shooting spree in three communities in two southern Alabama counties: Kinston in Coffee County, and Samson and Geneva in Geneva County. Five of the victims were family members and two were children. After engaging in an exchange of fire with police, he committed suicide, bringing the total of dead to eleven. Officials at the time said this was the worst shooting event in Alabama history” ((2009, March 10), Geneva County massacre. Retrieved from Wikipedia.
Gun control problems Nowadays, we can hear the crimes related to guns from time to time, and each of them is scarified and influential. For example, the accident happened in Sandy Hook Elementary School leads to 20 deaths for primacy school students and 6 deaths for staffs. It is hard to imagine what degree of sadness in their family may suffer. In this way, many people think the government should have stronger gun control regulations.
Lott continues on to mention that Even after accounting for factors such as law enforcement, poverty, and demographics, each percentage point increase in gun ownership produces a four percent drop in violent crime. Backing the claim that, “States with higher gun ownership rates have much lower crime rate” (Lott 29). Lott also mentions that Countries with the strictest gun control laws tend to have the highest homicide rate. This once again shows a correlation between a higher gun ownership rate and a lower violence rate. Mauser and Kates also support Lotts claims by explaining, “Where firearms are most dense violent crime rates are the lowest, and where guns are least dense violent crime rates are the highest” (Kates, Mauser 649).
Adam, a 20-year old, went home from college to visit his family like every other typical month. One night around midnight he heard walking in the house, thinking it was his family. He got up only to realize that it wasn’t his family, it was three robbers. He ran downstairs to the family safe and retrieved the AR-15, going back up stairs to confront the criminals he flashed the weapon at them and they fled from the house to the nearest exit. The “Assault” weapon or AR-!5 is the most commonly debated weapon to get banned in the United States.
Gun Control Have you ever wondered why gun control is around and why people oppose or agree with it? Well gun control is the attempt to make laws on purchasing, selling, trading, and producing firearms. The Second Amendment is one of the reasons why people oppose or agree with gun control. The U.S. government had made many laws for gun control over the years (Benson). The third reason why people either oppose or side with gun control are the pros and cons in the past, such as how many deaths because of guns and how many deaths for not the use of guns to protect yourself.
“The Actions Taken to Reduce Gun Violence” “Yes, people pull the trigger - but guns are the instrument of death. Gun control is necessary, and delay means more death and horror.” Guns are bringing too much horror to this world. Guns are being used to bring too much harm and they must be controlled.
Guns, one of the main reasons why we have so many shootings and is one of the causes millions of people are dying each year . Lives are being taken away from us and no one has done anything about it so far, there has to be a stop to all of this. I am against the amendment that we have in the United States about the gun control. These mass shootings and deaths need to have a rule to stop all of these terrible things in our United States. Therefore, I propose a 28th Amendment to the United States Constitution stating that Guns should be reduced in the United States
Another, law could be to implement mental health screenings to detect any mental illnesses with the future gun holder, that would be most useful, because it is essential to know the mental state of a future gun holder. Lastly, regulating illegal gun sales would also help, along with gun safety and protection. In today’s society, there are gun laws and specific things that must be done, to be able to own a handgun or assault rifle. For example, there is an age limit that differs in some states, those age limits are eighteen years old in some states and twenty-one in other states.
The cultural aspects of a society have always had an exceptional impact in the way the population functions. Where an individual lives will determine the state of mind he/she will have when approached with many situations that include, amongst many others, forms of expression, medicinal approaches, disciplinary techniques, and even violence within the society. The United States is a powerful country with a culture largely and unknowingly aimed towards violence. As a result, citizens feel unsafe and politicians are looking for solutions to this rising problem. The most common debate throughout the nation is that of gun control and whether or not guns are actually to blame for the decrease in public safety.
Is our country a safe environment to live in? Is it somewhere where you don't have to constantly worry about violence? Or is it somewhere where you can go to school or work feeling protected and safe? The lack of involvement in gun control is leading to the increase in violence and causing severe problems in our society. Through the second amendment, gun control has become an issue to American society.
Gun control- the debate on whether or not there should be laws making it harder to get a gun, more severe background checks, mental health checks, or even banning guns as a whole. Whatever you think, it’s been thought of before. Gun control laws and the idea of gun control itself has been in debate since the Second Amendment was ratified in 1791. Whether or not something will be done about it, is a debate that will likely be around for decades more. Gun control, as defined by Dictionary.com is “government regulation of the sale and ownership of firearms.”
One of the most common arguments made while debating gun control is if the government places stricter restrictions on purchasing and using firearms, then civilians will eventually have the right to own guns taken away from them altogether. This is an example of the logical fallacy of slippery slope because it states that one first step (stricter regulations when buying firearms) will eventually lead to larger implications such as the government taking away the right for civilians to own guns completely. This is an argument that has been made by many groups advocating for looser gun control, such as the National Rifle Association, a massive organization with much political influence. The NRA’s website reads “In the face of gun-hating political
Gun Control Gun control has become a polarizing and controversial issue around the globe. There have been many reported issues of mass shootings both in schools and in the public, making it a hot button issue. Proponents argue that, if the government strictly controls the ownership of guns, such tragedies can be prevented. Most Americans have an obsession with guns because the law allows them to do so. Therefore, they are always ready to scoff at anyone trying to control gun ownership.
