Every so often, there will be an event that will change your thoughts and perspective on a particular topic. The recent shootings at Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida has led me to rethink my opinions on gun control as a whole. It is no surprise that mass shootings happen; from when I was in eighth grade and Adam Lanza 20 elementary school kids and 6 staff members, to my first year of college when Nikolas Cruz killed 17 people. These horrific mass murders may seem like a common thing to us but this is not normal worldwide, this is only a common thing here in the United States.
The Second Amendment gives citizens the right to bear arms and it states: "A well regarded Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." This amendment was passed by congress in 1789 and ratified in 1791. This amendment was put into place 229 years ago and guns that existed 229 years ago were muskets and flintlock pistols compared to our modern AR-15 's and other automatic and semi-automatic weapons. Our guns have advanced over two centuries so why haven 't our laws to own guns changed? When we

On one hand, some argue that guns should not be banned and the Second Amendment protects their right to own firearms. From this perspective, I understand that guns may be utilized as a safety precautionary. On the other hand, however, others argue that more guns leads to more gun violence and gun related deaths. In the words of Press Secretary, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, one of this view 's main proponents "I think if you look to Chicago where you had over 4,000 victims of gun-related crimes last year they have the strictest gun laws in the country. That certainly hasn 't helped there." According to this view, Chicago is used as an example that strict gun control does more harm than
Gun Control and Mass Shootings in America Gun violence is an unquestionable issue in America, with the United States ranking as one of the worst with both homicides and suicides using guns. That being said, we outnumber Mexico in gun related deaths and among first-world countries we rank far above others in the number of gun deaths, such as England and Australia. Consequently, we live in one of the only first world countries that does not have extensive gun laws and restrictions to gun access. Aside from the countless homicides and suicides by firearm in this country, one particular issue within this predicament is mass shootings, with the most recent mass shooting occurring on February 14th, 2018 at a high school in Parkland, Florida where 17 people were killed. Although, it may seem like an easy fix to just implement gun control laws into our society to eliminate gun violence, but it is important to note that Americans own nearly half of all firearms globally, which is roughly 325 million guns;
Many gun owners believe that owning a firearm provides a means of protecting themselves and their families in the event of a threat. Additionally, some argue that the presence of armed citizens can act as a deterrent to criminal activity, as potential criminals may think twice before committing a crime if they believe they may face armed resistance. However, opponents of the Second Amendment argue that the proliferation of firearms has led to a rise in gun violence and mass shootings. They point to statistics showing that the United States has a much higher rate of gun deaths than other developed countries, and argue that the easy availability of firearms contributes to this problem.
Imagine you are a hunter, you own a gun, use it legally and responsibly, it is your prized possession. How would you feel if our government banned guns and took the right to keep and bear that gun away from you? In this country, there are people that live in the mountains like Alaskans for instance, that use their guns to get their food. These people live in remote areas, do not have groceries stores or neighbors nearby. As a matter of fact, their food supplies are wild game, such as deer and duck, that they hunt for food.
It is clear and evident and most Americans know about about it and some have contrasting opinions and views of it. It is the ongoing heated debate of Gun Control in the states whether there should be more stricter laws on them. We have all seen and heard the stories of mass shootings throughout the country such as Sandy Hook, Aurora, Colorado and Columbine. There are multiple arguments that both support and oppose Gun Control and this paper is going to show you both sides of the ongoing dispute. Although guns are known for giving the ability for U.S. citizen to protect themselves over time and throughout history they have been also used for taking innocent lives thus there should be more stricter laws against them.
Although the second amendment states all americans have the right to bear arms crime statistics show that we need tighter gun control to lessen the widespread shootings. Gun violence has existed in america
Firearms is one of America’s most controversial topics, one side argues that guns should be outlawed and only permitted to those in association with the government, while the other side replies that guns should be buyable to law abiding citizens and should not be outlawed. I myself fall on the side that claims why guns should not be outlawed, and why we should be able to possess firearms if we do our duties as a citizen. In the constitution under amendment II, it states that the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed, what this means is that no one should be able to take away our rights to keep and use firearms. But there are still people who think that guns are too dangerous and lead to an excessive amount of casualties, and instead would like to keep guns off the streets.. To that I respond with the phrase that guns don 't kill
Gun control has been a controversial issue for years and numerous solutions have been proposed and enacted. The debate sparked after tragic civilian attacks, like school shootings. An example, is the tragedy in 1999 at Columbine High School. Two teens attacked the school, killing 13 people and wounding more than 20 others before killing themselves. Following this attack, numerous solutions have been argued and purposed.
In the past, the major gun control legislations that have been put into effect have not stopped people from obtaining firearms (Gun Control.) There have also been cases in the past where cities have attempted to ban handguns. After the ban was put into effect, murder rates tended to rise instead of drop, unlike what most people might assume. Crime rates and violence also skyrocketed after the bans were put into effect. Another problem with taking guns away, or banning them, is that the government cannot expect everyone to abide by the laws.
The use of and the owning of guns is a very hot and debated topic in society today. For many, this is a life and death debate due to the recent and numerous school shootings. These school shootings have caused an outcry for more gun control, specifically in relation to the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting. Despite these calls, increased gun control is not the answer. Most gun owners’ use their guns responsibly and for good purposes.
Guns are just a tool, like knives and hammers and it completely depends on the people on how they use it. People who support guns and arms say that the Second Amendment secures individual’s right to carry guns with them and that gun rights is needed for self-protection, and was intended for military to have peace and defend the country if needed (Spitzer, 70). Most of the Americans use guns as a source to protect themselves and they believe that gun ownership prevents crime. A study conducted on November 26, 2013 showed that bans on weapons did not significantly affect murder rates at the state level (Lane, 5). Moreover, even if the rules and regulations are executed on gun control, not all criminals obey the law.
Guns should be banned in America, with 30,000 deaths yearly in America, we need to do something about it. Many counties have made strict gun control laws or just have banned guns and that seems to be helping them. We have the most gun deaths out of all wealthy countries, which is unacceptable and we need to change it as fast as possible to prevent further deaths. Many people say that guns shouldn't be banned because of how the Second Amendment says, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” The Second Amendment was written in 1791, around 225 years ago!
Gun Control On February 14, 2018 seventeen innocent people were shot and killed at a school in Parkland Florida. The shooter being over the age of eighteen, legally purchased the gun that caused this massacre, back in February of 2017. The federal law states, anyone with a clean criminal record over the age of eighteen can legally purchase a gun. This brings people to wonder, is our gun control enough?
Everyday in the United States, ninety families are changed forever; guns claim an average of ninety lives every day in the United States, 33,000 lives in a single year. Gun control has been a debate in the United States for many years and is constantly thrusted back into the public’s attention by horrific shootings. These shootings constantly cause individuals to petition the government to place stricter and stricter regulations of guns. However, these policies cannot be the solution to this problem. To determine a solution that will be both effective and constitutional, we must look at statistics and research that has been conducted to determine the best course of action.
The number of incidents of gun violence last year in the United States was about 60,000. In recent years, the number of mass shooting has risen to about one mass shooting per day in the United States. The country is divided with some wanting to reevaluate our gun control laws and either ban or add additional regulations to the purchase of guns. Others say it is our right for Americans to own guns and something the founding fathers considered important to put in the Bill of Rights. The number of firearm sales has risen with the number of mass shooting many Americans question if banning guns or certain guns could help decrease the number of gun violence deaths.
Banning guns will only increase the amount of illegal purchases on them. Banning guns will only increase the amount of illegal purchases on them. Banning guns will only make it harder on the community since if they do get banned, those who own them illegally can easily commit mass murders since the public won't be able to defend themselves. It is like the one phrase, "don't bring a knife to a gunfight". More people can be killed and those mass shootings that kill around 20 people can now be killing 40 since nothing will stop them.
