PART 1: Confronting the Wizard and the Warrior within The wizard and the warrior inhabit two different but touching worlds. The warrior’s world is a place of battle, of allies and antagonists, courage and weakness, honor and betrayal, strength and weakness. The wizard occupies a realm of opportunity, magic and mystery. The wizard’s strength lies not in weapons or physical courage, but in wisdom, foresight, the capability to see under and beyond looks. LIGHT AND SHADOW (Mother Teresa & Richard Nixon) Richard Nixon and Mother Teresa were larger-than-life world figures, and both struggled to manage the conflicting forces in their psyches. Nixon let his ambition and his fears trump his genius, with overwhelming results. Mother Teresa’s success …show more content…
We need to identify and follow a path of paradox and ambiguity, a promising route right in front of us. When should a leader fight, and when should he or she search for new possibilities? Leaders should reflect about how they presently cope with this problem, and how they might approach it differently in the future. According to the book, The Wizard and the warrior there are four (4) different characters in leadership: 1. Analysts highlight rationality, analysis, logic, truths, and facts. They believe a good leader is educated and knowledgeable, thinks clearly, makes the correct decisions, has good systematic skills, and can design strong structures and systems to get the job done. 2. Caregivers highlight the significance and importance of people and relationship. A good leader cares sincerely about others and is a facilitator who listens, can provide supports and empowers. 3. Warriors believe that leaders live in a world of struggle and scarce resources. They highlight the importance of building a power base: allies, networks, resources and …show more content…
In toxic warriors, the conflict between forces of dark and light tempers with almost uncontrollable intensity. They are, at worst, thugs and sadists. They believe that victory and their own interests supersede everything else. The toxic warriors have little patience for moral concerns; the end justifies the means. They are often brilliant, politically shrewd and charismatic. They may temporarily reach extraordinary heights, yet their truncated vision and moral flaws lead almost certainly to
Violence is not something one, no matter one 's level of expertise, can actually plan for. I can think of many tough young men dead young now. The symbolism of the ring, or the octagon gain resonance because they appeal to our desperate need for order out of the desperate appearance of chaos, for a struggle, if not for a taste of our hero 's invulnerability, for a portion of his honor and nobility. Gorn ties this drive, over time, to the class struggle both in England and America, and how the working class who fought for workers rights often identified closely with great fighters and bare-knuckle boxers. This is not a mindless venture into violence this study is a glimpse into the reality of working class heroes that perhaps many who purport to be their champions among the liberal class would rather shy away from.
Melba Pattillo Beals wrote Warriors Don’t Cry as a memoir of her battle to integrate Little Rock’s Central High. The nonfictional story focuses on the life of Melba Pattillo Beals, one of the nine teenagers chosen to integrate central high school in Little Rock, Arkansas. Being threatened and harassed by her school mates while her own community ignore her during her attempt to bring equality in Arkansas is heartbreaking as her remarkable story is displayed in this book. There are lots of literary elements used to create this memoir as they help the writing spring to life. Some of them are: first point of view, conflict, plot, theme, symbolism etc.
Individuals upsurge their powers in society by developing their skills in speech that will eventually empowering over others and stimulating sense of powerlessness in individuals. In the case of Weapons Training, Dawe alerts responders the power of authority in a Sergeant’s potent speech with pejorative language, ‘unsightly fat between your elephant ears open that drain you call a mind’ as it insults the troops with graphic visual imageries as the brain been metaphorically personified and juxtaposed to the drain. This, combined with the assonance of the hyperbole, the persona is allowed to adapt a faster pace and to promote the intensive tone that hence, further accentuating the persona’s power. Moreover, the poem ends dramatically as Dawe states ‘you’re dead, dead, dead’, in which it foreshadows the recruits’ deaths and yet, reinforcing the crudity of wars and reality through the repetition of ‘dead’.

What do leaders mean to you? The Anishinaabe community is barely surviving, a harsh winter threatening their lives. No power, no food, no resources, and no communication with the outside world. In Waubgeshig Rice’s novel Moon of the Crusted Snow, leadership is the only thing leading to their survival. The whole community shares a common goal.
When the world is engulfed in injustice, it calls for brave men and women to fight back, but the question is how should one fight? Most would resort to violence to kill off injustice, but this leads to even more violence and chaos in most cases than intended. If someone is going to be shot the first reaction is to fight off the killer. However, Cesar Chavez implies in his powerful essay the weakness of violence in a unjust situation and instead the power of nonviolence.
A leader must be willing and ready to not only give orders but receive them. The group cannot thrive with a leader who does not adore what they do. The leader must be devoted and excited about what they do. A leader can have respect from every single member of the group but without the
Elliott Hoepf Professor Hawes English 200-225 5 March 2015 Journal #1 The story Battle Royal is a truly a battle against one’s own self more than it is against each other. In the story the narrator is willing to do anything to achieve his dreams. This is illustrated by how he goes does not resist the complete oppression of the whites and the mental beating the put on him.
The movie, The Lion King, includes several different demonstrations of leadership theories. By following the story of a young lion, whose father is the king, and their “pride” or community, the film shows an array of different leadership approaches from two main leaders (Allers and Minkoff). The most prominent leaders in The Lion King are Mufasa, the king of the “pride lands” and the main character’s father, and Scar. Scar is Mufasa’s bitter and jealous brother that rules over the hyenas just outside of the “pride lands” (Allers and Minkoff). Between these two, very different leaders, the situational approach, the path-goal approach, and the transformational approach are all applied.
In developing this paper on leadership, I examined what was most important to me as a leader. As I reflected on my leadership philosophy, I thought about my experiences and the principals that I have learned through my own self-discovery and the observation of other leaders that I have had throughout my life. My leadership philosophy paper will focus on what leadership is to me, core values, and knowledge of others. In thinking about my definition of leadership, I thought of what was most important to me in and as a leader.
He does not set out to be a leader, but becomes one by the equality of his actions and the integrity of his intent" (McCarther 2015). A leader should lead from the front and also have the ability to think quickly on their feet and take care of their Soldiers. Have faith and trust that the leadership is doing their best to keep everything in

Basis of modern science of conflict is studies of German, Austrian, American sociologists of the 20th century: G.Simmel, L. Gumplowicz, D. Smalley, W. Sumner, R. Dahrendorf, Parsons. Conflict was recognized as normal social phenomenon. A number of biological, psychological, social and other factors inevitably generate conflict. Most scientists refer Georg Simmel to the founders of Theoretical conflictology.
Introduction Leadership is the art of empowering people around you to achieve a goal. As a leader I want to help others become leaders themselves. I firmly believe that by leading based on my values this will be accomplished. I have had many leadership influences throughout my career. Some of them showed me the way I wanted to someday lead and others showed me exactly how not to.
