Travis Manion, a Marine Corps officer, was an assignment I was given to study before I went the Marine Corp’s Summer Leadership and Character Development Academy during the summer of my tenth grade year to have background knowledge on before we spoke to his family. Travis Manion gave his life to save his Marines in combat and on American soil, as told by his sister and family, who travels the country to tell his story, Travis Manion always lived by his motto: “If not me, then who…”. When asked by his loved ones who doesn’t he just let someone else go to combat instead of always volunteering to go Manion always told them, “If I don’t go, someone less qualified then me might have to go, or someone younger with less experience will have to go to take my place.

Kari Jobe is someone I look up to because she is a remarkable worship leader, an activist who really cares about other people and their struggles, and overall a magnificent and humble person that loves God and has a servant’s heart. Growing up in a Christian home can have great rewards if you are faithful and Kari Jobe found that out very quickly. At age 3 Kari Jobe loved to sing that is when she found her calling, being a worship leader.

Being the entertainer that he was, he would put on plays and dance pieces in his garage in front of his entire family. When Tommy got to High School, all of his dreams of being a classical dancer went out the window when he reached six feet, six inches tall; he knew that this height would not work in the classical dance world that he so longed to be apart of, so he began to concentrate on a different form of dance, tap. He attended Lamar High School in Houston, Texas where he impressed his theater teachers with his natural ability to entertain and his quick feat. They encouraged Tune to think
I had the pleasure of doing my report on none other than the wonderful Kirk Whalum. As I was doing my research, I was able to learn about his life, work and accomplishments. Poverty is a worldwide issue many people suffer with, narrowing it down to 14.5% of citizens in America, or more than 45 million. People raised in these conditions struggle to pay for transportation, proper medical aid, food, and clothing; usually surviving on a few dollars a day for either themselves or a full family. These issues make living in poverty seem like an infinite curse that holds onto their unfortunate victims until old age, but with the effort and determination needed and combined, people can find their way out of the stereotype and into success. Ben Carson, a now well-known neurosurgeon, makes his success almost dream-like; going from being raised in poverty and by a single mother, to becoming the first doctor to ever perform

Luckily, I survived and am here to pass on this tale.
