I selected WRTG 101 because it was a required class towards my undergraduate degree. This is a class that I should have taken earlier in my pursuit of my degree; it would have been extremely beneficial to me with my writing assignments for other classes. Being a student of WRTG 101 employs me to use my critical thinking skills in conjunction to my writing skills. Prior to taking this class, I thought that my writing skills were above average; however this class has provided instruction and feedback that I needed improvement in several areas. Each Monday, I would log onto UMUC.com to read the Course Content/Alerts to see what the status of my progress. An example is: the number of unread discussion posts, one assignment with unread feedback and one quiz or exam not attempted. The next section that I look at t=is the Content page which provides me with the coming week’s assignments. I copy and paste this in an email to myself, so that I have a frame of reference to check throughout the week when I am not able to log into UMUC. This section was very beneficial to me because it allows me to or automatically checks off the assignments that I have completed or read. The assignments consisted of reading, tutorials, Comfit, and the required writing assignment for …show more content…
If I found a subject to be very challenging for me, I could watch and listen to the video while making notes. If necessary, I would listen to the audio while I was preparing a meal, loading the dishwasher or anything else that required my moving away from my laptop. It is effective as listening to audio books and although I am a visual person, this proved to be very effective. There is research or discussion about the use of tutorials and if this form of learning is effective. “According to several pieces of research, tutorials actually are helpful in teaching.” (Roys,

Often times, when in a class filled with many characters, teachers look for the students putting in the effort. The matter of trying goes a long way until you’re in a room with students that have been putting in the same amount of effort or even more. My freshman year, I was put in a regulars English class where the teacher had praised me for being analytical and just simply putting in more effort in the class than the other students. The teacher told me that I was AP English material. Little did I know that many like me were scattered in other English classes that year.
As an English as a second language speaker, writing is very challenging for me. I feel like I had two brains which are communicating together at the same time. As I mentioned before I do have a hesitation about telling a story in English. This left me feeling frustrated, scared, angry, and ashamed. Even I progress on speaking after taking accent reduction class.
Before traveling out to Petaluma for the Chief Petty Officer Academy I was nervous, anxious, and excited all at the same time. I was not sure what I was going to learn or how it would change me as person for the better. Now that I am here and finishing week four, I can honestly say it has been one of the most eye opening experiences of my life. I have learned more about myself in the past four weeks than I have in a lifetime. Attending the Chief Petty Officer Academy was very beneficial for my career, it has taught me how to coach someone, showed me why diversity is so important in the work place, and has me thinking of ways to make a better command climate at my unit so we can eradicate sexual assault all together.
I just want to start off by saying that this class has been so helpful and I have been able to learn so much and also see different perspectives with all of your help. It has truly been a pleasure working with all of you this semester! Even though I had ACC 201 background knowledge with me starting this class I was still nervous because math is not my strongest subject, but there was no need to be nervous. Although the material may have been challenging at times this class provided all the necessary materials and help so I could be successful in this class. I want to specifically thank Professor Chester for always answering all of my questions and making sure I grasped the material.
As an English student this semester, I have learned how to develop essays in an appropriate educated way in English 101. I have learned how to find and properly use different sources in my essays as well as improving on MLA format. This class has also improved my writing skills in my work place. I presently work as a secretary for a company, and my job consists of writing letters to people from time to time. The skills that I have learned has dramatically improved those letters, allowing them to appear more professional.
My Writing Experience In previous courses, my writing skills have been mediocre or just enough to pass the class. Throughout the duration of this course, I have written a variety of papers using different techniques and skills. Previously I would write assuming that the only audience would be my instructor. This course has helped me realize that there are many steps and skills involved with writing a well-organized and easy to comprehend essay.
Reflective Writing Assignment #2: Demian Rubalcaba At the beginning of the presentation, Demian told the class that he was a heroin and methamphetamine addict. Through his struggles with addiction, the field of social work began to become familiar to him and he began to gravitate toward that profession. Although he works with adolescents and young adults who struggle with addiction, he emphasized that having personal experience isn’t enough to help clients.
We learned may things in this class that helped me with this experiment. This class taught me the different way in the children learn. This class showed me that not kids are the same way, each child learns in his or her own way. It showed me that there are different kind of children in the world and they all grow in develop in their own way.
Going from a tenth grade English course to a college level English was a change I underestimated. I wrote the first paper, and receive a ten out of ten. My confidence about the course continued to grow, until I wrote the second paper. I received an 80 on the rough draft, and to other people that might have seemed like a good grade, but I had never received a grade lower than an A on papers before. I realized that one of my weaknesses was the strength of my writing.
What I learned about writing is that I have good ideas but have difficulty constructing my thoughts in a paper and also to outline my credible sources. It’s really important to have a coherent theme to my papers and to focus on the main topic, also to make sure my in-text citation is accurate according to APA. I also learned that I need to look for grammar and formatting. What I have learned about public speaking is that I have good speaking manner, but I need to slow down as I present and not to get ahead of myself. Also, to make sure my PowerPoint is a bit more engaging and organized.
Nothing has brought so much creativity and frustration out of me quite like essays. I would focus most of my effort into the content and a minuscule effort for formatting as well as citation. I have found a new appreciation for MLA format, which helps convey a sense of professionalism and organization. Learning the basic building blocks of an essay have helped lay a solid foundation for our academic careers and beyond. Understanding and practice are the keys to executing flawless work, much of which I have Throughout my secondary education the process of researching was one of many restrictions and contradictions.

We all make mistakes, and most of the time we learn from them. From my Preliminary Writing Assignment to my Paper One, I have made numerous improvements in my writing but also many mistakes. Coming into College Writing One, I did not have papers to write to improve my skills in my upcoming years in college. Within the two papers I have written, I have expanded my word selection for more detailed paper, reduced fragments, and reorganized my thesis method for a better outcome. I came into this class thinking it was going to be just like high school.
