The war of 1812 was a war that was fought for the rights of Americans. The British were infringing on the rights of Americans and were not obeying the rules set. The war also brought some patriotism to the country, fighting for America came into people’s hearts. The actions the British took towards the Americans were the reasons why this war happened. One action the British did was to stop Americans from trading with France, physically not allowing them to do so. Another action the British took was the impressment of American soldiers by British navy, taking to Americans by force and making them work. Majority of the American people don’t know much about The War of 1812. The War of 1812 is often referred as the second war of independence from Britain. The battle of Lundy’s Lane was one of the harshest battles in Canada. (The Battle of Lundy’s Lane) The war of 1812 started from Britain and France attempting to cut off trade to and from America as well impressing their Navy.
This was easy for the British because of the pressure the Native Americans faced due to the expansion of America. During the war, Americans called for an invasion of Canada mostly because of the support the British were giving Native Americans in the northwest. The last cause of the war were the War Hawks, a nickname was given to Republicans who wanted to go to war with Britain. Many of them had just been elected into office and wanted to change the direction of the country.

In this paper, I am going to discuss, the role of Andrew Jackson, how prisoners were dealt with in this war, the Battle of Baltimore, and the Treaty of Ghent. The War of 1812 is often a long forgotten war. It has been easy to skip over while learning about the history of our country. People often go from learning about the formation of our country in the Revolutionary War, to the Civil war that almost divided our young nation. No one can deny that these 2 wars are important in the history of the Untied States, but the War of 1812 made America the nation that we are now. Often called our second War of Independence from Britain and our second war with Native Americans, the War of 1812 broke any ties of control that Great Britain had on the newly formed nation, as we trumped the world’s strongest and largest navy.
The war of 1812 was a conflict that involve the United States and the United Kingdom. During the Napoleonic Wars, the restrictions on the United States trade resulted in a British Blockade of allied ports which triggered the war. The British and Canadian support for the American Indians plan to resist westward expansion also prompted the war. This was a war that the United States did not want to get involved in due to a weak military force, but they had no other options. After trying to avoid the war, it eventually came anyways and continued until 1814.
One of the main causes of the War of 1812 was the violations of shipping rights by the British. British fleets started harassing American ships and taking British American citizen’s prisoners to fill their own naval vessels. In an attempt to help rectify restrictions of the embargo that had been originally set by Thomas Jefferson when he was president between Britain and France; President Madison spoke with Napoleon and he said that he would remove his decrees if the British did as well. The British refused and President Madison was left without a choice and asked Congress to declare war on Britain. During this time Britain was also encouraging the Native American Indians to cause conflicts with American settlers.
The war was in a stalemate with both sides counting the losses. The 1812 war placidly favored the Americans. The British forces and government no longer had the reasons of interfering with trade in America as they were defeated by the French forces. The Indians who were the greatest stumbling block to the white settlement and expansion were not a threat anymore. Becoming a honorable and pride filled moment for America, the war caused us to gain our national anthem, the Star-Spangled Banner, and almost lose our capital: Washington, D.C to the British due to a dire.

The War of 1812; A War that forged a Nation The War of 1812 lasted from 1812-1815, and was fought between the fledgling nation of the United States of America against the British Empire, including its North American colonies, as well as its Native American allies. The war was brought about by many reasons: The British War against Napoleonic France led to a paralysis of American trade, the impressment of U.S. merchant sailors into the Royal Navy which further impeded the American economy, British support of Native American tribes’ opposition towards American westward expansion, as well as outrage over affronts against national honor, notably due to British actions at sea. However, after nearly three years of war, no conclusive winner was determined.
The United States’ declaration of war on Great Britain in 1812 puzzled many historians. Because representatives voted against the war with a vote of 20-12, many believed Madison would call off the war. However, because of its many causes such as the repeated violations of the United States’ shipping rights and the impressment of American sailors it began to overrule New England’s vote in Congress. Another conflict that led the Americans to declare war against Britain was the growing issue British-allied attacks in the Ohio Valley and their lust for Canada. Because Americans often took land from the Indians without permission it angered the Native Americans.

The War of 1812 was a war fought between the United States of America and Great Britain. One of the main reasons that the war began was because Great Britain was using impressment against America. Impressment is when you raid other ships and get whatever goods they have and force the crew into your navy.
