Today I will be telling you the story of why the Grinch hates Christmas. The Grinch’s house as a child was very boring and plain. Even at Christmas it only had a bare tree with no lights or ornaments. They didn’t have any other ornaments inside or out. At Christmas, the Grinch and all of his siblings never got toys. They always got clothes like socks and other ugly clothes that they never liked. Every Christmas season all in the children in the Grinch’s house wrote Christmas lists with toys on them. They started to not believe in Santa. They put up with getting clothes every year until one year the Grinch decided he didn’t want to put up with it any more. In the Christmas Carol, Ebeneezer Scrooge had always hated Christmas. He was never happy, he would always argue about something. Until one night that changed everything including his emotions, feelings, and life. He became a very sweet old man. Scrooge is officially an old man that loves Christmas.
As you may know Christmas is all about giving, being joyful, and celebrating the holidays but not for Ebenezer Scrooge he despises Christmas. Ebenezer Scrooge is a bitter old man. In the movie The Christmas Carol he shows his cold-heart toward others refusing to make a donation for the good of the poor, claiming they are better off dead. However in the story Ebenezer is visited by the spirits of Christmas past, present, and future on Christmas Eve. Each spirit shows Scrooge to view three different times in his life in order to teach him a lesson.

For instance, when Fred his nephew come into his counting house and invites him for Christmas dinner he said bah humbug and waved him goodbye. Scrooge hats giving his money away as an illustration in the play that we watched two people came to ask for money and he said no and to leave. Scrooge is a very cheap man, one example of this is that he had a girlfriend that wanted to marry him but he loved money more than her.
In the place of Ebenezer Scrooge’s outlook on life, he feels no joy. Ever since his lifelong business partner, Jacob Marley, kicked the bucket, Scrooge became more stingy than he ever was. A time of useless giving, robbery, is what Scrooge sees Christmas as.
Scrooge in "The Christmas Carol" shows how much he hates Christmas, and everyone he works with to change to a happy person with the help of others. Scrooge emphasizes, "What a fine day fellow... An Intelligent boy, a remarkable boy. " This is a critical part of this novel because this shows Scrooge overcame his dislike of Christmas and his entire disliking of people. Instead of rudely gesturing to people, he is now starting to act nicer, and more mature.
Dr. Seuss’ poem, “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” can be analyzed using many different schools of criticism, however, the psychoanalytical school of criticism holds allows us to truly understand the “true meaning” behind the poem. The poem begins with a socially isolated character, the Grinch, who loathes Christmas and wishes to completely destroy it. He wants to completely eliminate Christmas from “Whoville.” The Grinch gets irritated whenever when he hears the singing from the children and sees families feasting together in the holiday season. However, as the poem progress, the Grinch starts to feel the love and happiness involved with Christmas and ends up correcting his wrongdoings to ultimately enjoy Christmas with the “Whos.”
