I am writing at the moment from Virginia and I hope all my family is able to read my experienced in the colonial era. Migrating from Europe was difficult but I am able to witness so far the liberty to worship God and people who worked to promote the church. There are ways to preserve the identity as Christians without any state rule that prohibits personal beliefs. People are able to purify their life in God without anyone feeling persecuted or suppress because of negative consequences one can experienced. There is also land and the benefits of it are cash crop and able to better economically. There’s an opportunity to grow tobacco and sell it as this gets trade with other countries and opens opportunities to acquired more land. The land also provides the ability to grow other agricultural products. The chance of moving to Colonial America has been a fresh start. The idea of living in a government of capitalism is appealing because it can help better everyone economically. There are not specific places to settle but New York, Pennsylvania, and Delaware are some of the colonies with a great diversity. There is a great demand for European products such as beads, fabric, alcohol, firearms, and metal leading to economic advantages and other products. There are many tribulations in the Europe continent with the problems of religion, economy, and political leading to an encouragement to seek for the new world. The European community is growing and outnumbering other groups. There are opportunities to sell land and build a future for children and settle an economic
Which Colony Would I Choose? It's a question that many people in the early time could have asked themselves. This essay briefly discusses the Captain John Smith and Bradford Colony and is explained and illustrated with the with their remarkable actions and ideas. Each had their own way of viewing life in their perspective and were in many ways different, however they both had very similar ideas. The idea here is to see which side is better than the other or are they both the same.
How did the British North American colonies in 1750 differ politically and economically from those in 1650? Were there important continuities? There are an abundant amount of differences, some major and some minor, between the two time periods of 1650 and 1750. There were also quite a few similarities as well. Firstly focusing specifically on the economics portion, in 1650 the slavery business wasn’t as widespread as it was in 1750.
During this time period, European colonies were exploring the world looking for new lands to conquer and colonize. The ideology of the time was mercantilism, which meant the strength of a colony was determined by the wealth of the colony. They would export the riches they obtained in their newly colonized land and export them for profit adding to their wealth. The European colonies also tried searching for faster trade routes, or land located along them in order to increase the profit they received from trades. New lands also offered new materials to trade which could allow them to dominate the trade markets.
Not only did these lands allow the production of familiar goods, they also introduced exchange, like the Columbian Exchange, where new crops, animals, culture, and disease were transferred between the Americas and Afro-Eurasia. Equally important was the theme of colonization and exploration; many countries, especially the ones of Western Europe, set sail to find new lands to conquer or colonize. They even set up enclaves in areas where strong control was unobtainable and established trading companies, like the Dutch East India Company. This theme led to the end of the America’s isolation and established a system of international inequality, where many areas depended on economically strong nations who made profits through their control. One last noticable difference of the world economy of the 16th and 17th centuries was the profit-making techniques; the new land allowed the expansion of the production of cash crops, which led to increased slaveholding and ultimately the slave trade, which provided unfree
The year is 1607. A small group of English settlers seeking fortune has crossed the Atlantic Ocean in a long, arduous journey that has lasted months. These settlers have finally reached landfall on the coast of Virginia, where they will build a colony. That colony, Jamestown, remains even today one of the most influential factors in the development of the United States. Jamestown established the slave trade in America, which in turn resulted in the black population of the United States, and which propelled the early United States economy.
The Chesapeake Bay area was settled by unruly and disorderly young men who were either looking for a fresh start or had been “put out” of England due to their past criminal activity. Puritans who were wealthy and stable participants in society settled the Massachusetts areas. The Puritans left England because of religious persecution and the lack of religious freedom. England’s churches were made up of a church hierarchy that included bishops and other higher -ranking officials.
Despite the common origin of all English colonists, each family and individual had a unique reason to migrate to the colonies across the sea. One reason was the religious turmoil that had enveloped England since King Henry VIII changed the national religion to cater to his divorce. Some members of the Puritan church, called separatists, wanted to leave England and start a purer church elsewhere with less focus on material goods. A different, opposing reason to settle was to search for minerals or to farm a cash crop to get rich due to the Mercantilist system that was beginning in some European countries, including England. These contradictory reasons, including societal structure, motivation, and attitude to colonize contributed to the extremely
New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut composed the New England colonies. Religion was a primary motive for English settlements in New England and a big part of their routine. The men and women who migrated there were mostly Puritans who were looking for a hafe heaven to practice their own religion and separate from the Church of England. These were mainly families, including children, who lived in small houses, had strong ties to their new church, and worked in diverse industries including farming, fishing, lumber, and others (Lecture notes, chapter 4). British setlements to the Southern colonies of Virginia, Georgia, and the Carolinas had economic motives with cash crops as the main source of farming based economy.
The New World was an uncharted venture that was full of potential for the European countries. People of any type of station, the wealthy, poor and servants could find the chance to make a new life for themselves. American history between the 1600’s and 1750’s was emanating with opportunity for those under religious persecution, the poor who sought wealth and servants that dreamed of freedom. The New world offered the needed opportunities that the British subjects and other ethnicities wanted to obtain so they could seek a better life for themselves. The New World increased these new prospects for those in need for religious freedom, for others to gain wealth and expand their power and wealth.
While thinking of some of the greatest settlements in history, England and Spain colonies should come to mind. Due to their dedication and slightly forceful determination to form their own rather small communities, they created a huge establishment in the Americas that will later influence other countries. Although the colonies were rarely influenced by each other, they both faced issues with many external factors. Both Spain and England encountered conflict between colonists and Native Americans, but England was more welcoming to religious differences while Spain strictly converted settlers to be Catholics. The role of Native American interaction was not the same for each settlement, especially for the Spanish and English colonies.
As pointed, he wants to point out that land is an essential first
The United States of America is now a days considered a country where freedom is a priority, and one of the most influential powers in the world. But in order for Americans to be able to understand the history behind freedom in America. One has to understand the value of how this land was born. It was all wrought as the result of slavery, and hard work put that many colonist put into this land.
Soon after the arrival of an Italian explorer Amerigo Vespucci in 1499, the Europeans quickly began making maps for their new project. They then began to send travelers to explore the new-found land. The British have had a monumental impact on our culture as we know it, in several ways. Most people would argue that the British were inhumane and forced their beliefs onto others, because they were known for claiming land and taking it as their own with no remorse. To some extent we can thank the British empire for showing what characteristics we do and do not want in the “New World”.
Moving to a new country can be difficult sometimes. Leaving all my relatives and friends back home was the saddest thing for me. My mother told me that we were moving to a new country. At first, I thought my mother was joking about it. but little did I know that she was telling the truth.
With no doubts, multiple people face with events that have significant meanings for them and there are many experiences that bring drastic turnings on the long life road. For me, this turning was made when I was told that my government chose to study in the United State Of America instead of the United Kingdom where I previously applied to study. Though enough time has passed, I remember this day like it was just yesterday. The feeling of excitement because of the upcoming journey was mixing with uncertainty and fear. Realizing that I will be in the country where currently I have no relatives and friends was more than frightening for me.
