Dear Mr. Alonza and Mrs. Shirley Ann Richardson, Hello, I’m Michaela Brooke Hunt and I’m a sophomore at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. I’m a pre-nursing major (I find out this upcoming March if I get accepted into the nursing program) and I’m a Maynor Honor’s student, so this past year has been a tedious, yet rewarding journey. Your kind hearts and scholarship has significantly impacted my life and I’m forever indebted to you both. This scholarship has allowed me to focus on my studies and excel in school, something that would have not been possible before because I would have had to get a job and cut back my hours at school. I want to become a nurse and then get my doctorate; I want to help make our world healthier and safer
I am attending Colorado Christian University to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. I started my medical career as a Combat Medic in the US Army. Since then I have become a Registered Medical Assistant and a Registered Phlebotomy Technician. I now work in a dialysis clinic and soon will be a Certified Dialysis Technician too. I decided to become a nurse because I feel I am capable of achiving it.
With the extra time this scholarship will provide; it will allow me to have the free time to volenteer at a local hospital, learning more about the enviornment I will soon be working in. That would be opportunity to increase my education even
Speech for NJHS Induction Ceremony Good evening students, faculty, and family members! Thank you, Mrs. Reece and Principal King, for inviting me to this year’s National Junior Honor Society induction ceremony. Students, tonight we honor your achievements in the areas of Scholarship, Citizenship, Responsibility, Community Service, Character, and Leadership as we recognize and celebrate the choices, and at times the sacrifices, you have made. Ralph Waldo Emerson said, "The reward of a thing well done is to have done it."
I didn’t really feel as part of the team through most of this experience because I wasn’t competent to complete many tasks but one of the nurses did try to get me involved when things were under control. She suggested that I draw up 40ml of saline into 5ml syringes if I felt comfortable doing so. Under her supervision I completed the task successfully and even though I didn’t contribute a lot I still felt good about getting involved and then I felt more competent. According to Penderson and Sivonen (2012) it takes courage for student nurses to accept tasks that get them involved in patient care, even if it is something very simple. I felt like I had contributed to Katie’s care.
As I begin my college education, I want to continue doing my best in order to accomplish my goal of becoming a registered nurse. With the scholarship money I can have the peace of mind of solemnly focusing on college. Students who have to work to continue their education have trouble focusing on school and do not have the extra time to study or go to tutoring sessions. In many cases, having to work while attending college usually leads to failing or dropping the class due to extra stress and the idea of income. As well, this scholarship will give me more time to focus on my education and to continue my volunteer work helping the
The Folds of Honor “Higher Education Scholarship” means a lot to me because it will help me receive a higher education without overwhelming my family. Also, the “Higher Education Scholarship” will help pursue my dreams of becoming an Occupational Therapist to help the growing number of brave wounded Warriors. This scholarship will add to my personal drive to complete college. I will know that I have the numerous donators for Folds of Honor cheering for me with their generous donations. Also, the honorable fallen and wounded Warriors, like my Dad, on my side inspiring me to achieve my long-term to help our brave
As a first generation student to attend college from a family of seven, the journey to a higher education has been arduous and overwhelming. My family gives me all the encouragement I need and are very optimistic about pursuing a higher degree. Unlike myself, my parents did not have the opportunity to attend college. My parents were born and raised in a small town in Mexico where the highest level of education they received was fifth grade. I have worked since I was 14 years old to support my parents with bills, and also saving for college and my own vehicle.
There’s always going to be the option to work full time but I rather pursue an education since it is my first priority. Getting my degree will assist me in overcoming the obstacle I’m currently in. CONNTAC-EOC and my counselor have assisted my career goals, because they helped me with my tight money problems and how to stay on the correct path with school. Winning this scholarship will truly benefit my career goals and assist me towards completing my education and paying for my expensive textbooks.
Each of our lives are different, our perspectives depend on who we are as individuals. It is kind of crazy to know that besides having different DNA’s our choices are different, even siblings have different choices. The society, in which we live in, is composed of many cultures, and even though we are exposed to all of them, we still make our vendettas. That is what makes a human being interesting, being different. What am I doing with my life?
I believe the greatest reward, as a physician, is the ability to solve people’s health issues. I will have the opportunity to reduce or eliminate troublesome, even deadly problems that hinder my patients. Through my service opportunities, I have provided necessities and performed simple health screenings to help others. However, I was not able to fully treat them. Only the physicians were able to fully address the patients’ medical concerns due to their extensive schooling and clinical experience.
You can imagine how life in the University is in a country like the United States of American. Sometimes the reality beats the expectations, including the professors, the fellow study, and the courses, it is something difficult to explain, because it is beyond our previous experiences, is so wonderful that fills us with hope and prepare us for a better future, for a better life as a health professional in the most developed country of America and the world. It is amazing and unrivaled what we are living and sometimes you do not know where to start writing a wonderful as I have lived all these months back story, especially for self is the protagonist and is cumbersome to write about our lives and our purposes, as well as our interaction with the professors and fellow students, but everything has a beginning and an end , and the world are constantly changing, so also we change our expectations and our thinking, and we trace a path to walk that it may seem long but at the
As a child, I dreamed of acquiring a career in Nursing. I was always fascinated by the amount of respect that nurses received during my doctor visits throughout my childhood. There are many reasons why I chose to major in Nursing such as the ability to take care of someone, the money and benefits that the career offered, as well as job stability and flexibility. On of my main reasons for pursing Nursing is the ability to care for someone other than myself.
The essence of nursing is providing care all across the spectrum to anyone from anywhere in the world, taking into consideration their individualized cultural backgrounds, norms and practices with respects to the patient, beliefs causing no harm out of lack of education, and or due to intentional personal biases. The nursing profession is one of which touches many lives regardless of religious, political preferences and or social backgrounds. Nursing speaks caring and compassion which translates into love. With the advancement of medicine in broad, nursing science has evolved significantly and continues to transform. The compassion in the heart of a nurse goes far beyond the bedside.
In June 2014 my husband, my son and I left Cuba bound for Paraguay looking to improve our lives and our families, after spending a year there we decided to come to America because it is the country that can give you a best future for our son. We are very happy to be in this great country where one has the opportunity to achieve the goals proposed. We studied medicine in our country and we exercised until we left, as specialists in orthopedics and traumatology my husband and I as Ophthalmology. Now here we decided to study nursing to keep branch of medicine and at the same time we have to work to support our family and to pay for school. I think nursing is a career that will allow us to be useful to society and will give us many satisfactions in the future.
As I begin this Master’s program to further my career in Nursing Administration, I will reflect on what it means to me to be academically, emotionally and practically ready for the challenges and opportunities of being a student at Walden University. I will identify action steps I will need to complete to prepare myself before my first course. It has been over 20 years since I have been in a classroom setting, so this decision did not come lightly. Academically, I feel nervous but confident I will succeed.
