In recent years there has been a big debate when it comes to the topic of gun safety. This issue isn’t just a problem in the Illinois or the U.S. but in many different places around the world. The main arguments revolve around the best way to reduce the high number of gun violence and accidental injuries caused by guns in the United States. The main issue I will discuss is not just gun safety, but more specifically a better solution to keeping kids more safe from guns. The big question people have the most opinions about is, should kids be taught gun safety at a young age, and will that help reduce the number of injuries and deaths in children due to playing with firearms.(ProQuest Staff) Kids aren’t mature enough to handle guns, even if they …show more content…
There are many reasons why a certain issue may be more significant to one person than it is to someone else. A big influence to whether an issue is important to someone is if it’s something that really gets to their emotions or if they can relate to the topic somehow. People die every day due to gun violence or gun accidents. But anytime kids are hurt or killed in a situation related to guns, it tends to get to people more involved in the topic and they have much stronger opinions. And that’s what people need to think about when it comes to the topic of gun safety for children."There are two ways to prevent children from dying in gun accidents: child-proof the gun and gun-proof the child….'Gun-proofing' a child involves ongoing, repeated education coupled with constant vigilance."(ProQuest Staff) They should try to look at it from a different perspective before they join the side of people who feel that it would be best if kids learned gun safety with more of a hands on approach. This issue even got president Obama to give a speech and express how he really personally felt about it, he said that he was ashamed to live in a society where we can barely protect our kids from things like guns. And how things like shooting sprees happen and parents have to worry about their kid’s safety even the school environment. (Lederman) " If the people who agree with that side did more research and looked at the different …show more content…
Or if teaching gun safety to them would have the greater impact on lowering the numbers of deaths and injuries due to firearms. But after doing my research I found a good solution to the problem that both sides will most likely agree on. The solution found was that it would be the best to teach children the proper safety precautions and how to use guns, but only teach them in school without them ever actually coming into contact with any. (Moore) Both sides can agree on this solution because kids would be learning about gun safety, but they won’t ever have to touch a gun since it’s in a school environment.
All in all any issue that has to do with kids and their safety people should really work to find a solution that they all feel would work the best. Creating laws built more around citizens opinions would help create more effective laws.( Franklin) Fixing this issue would not only save many children’s lives, but better laws could help with the problem places are having with guns all over not just in Illinois or the
On December 14th, 2012, the lives of thousands, and indirectly millions changed after the shooting of twenty children and six teachers were fatally shot by the infamous Sandy Hook Elementary school shooter, Adam Lanza. This event was so dramatic and sickening the world stopped in it’s tracks waiting for what was going to happen next. In the aftermath of the tragedy, the cauldron was stirred and the underlying question resurfaced; What should we do about gun control laws? Should the people of America even have guns? After a number of shootings occurring and Sandy Hook occurring, Barrack Obama addressed the event and spoke about “reducing gun violence” and promoting “gun safety” drawing many citizens to support his cause.
A policy supported by 67 percent of Americans support a policy where states and localities require guns to be locked up at home. There are various types of smart gun technology that exits, that can prevent anyone other than their owner from firing a given. However, gun lock requirements and smart guns have been opposed by the National Rifle Association (NRA) and its allies. The NRA promotes a response is solve the gun problem with more guns and aims to broaden the saturation of firearms in nearly every sphere of public and private life. In a country with more guns than people, it is not surprising that a certain number of small children are able to get their hands on unsecured firearms with tragic consequences.
In order for citizens to buy guns, they must pass a background check, photo license I.D., and a gun safety test. All guns must have a mandatory child safety lock to prevent any injuries or death. In the U.S. alone, there are more than 10,00 gun homicides and more than 20,00 people are killed by firearms each year. My party finds that it is unlawful for kids age 3 to 10 to be given a handgun, whether it’s for hunting or protection. Children mostly in the age range of 5 to 14 are 17 times more likely to be murdered by firearms than children in other industrial nations.
In 2007, a total of 3,042 kids and teens died because of guns, and another 17,523 were injured!(Source B) [logos] [exclamation] Just think about all the young lives that were lost and how many families were broken. Many people were hindered by these bullets, and even if they weren’t, the tragic event stays within them forever. And just imagine this amount of death in your own community: if you add together all the students that attend the Los Altos School District, this includes all seven elementary schools as well as Egan and Blach, and the students from Los Altos High School and Mountain View High School, that is just half of the kids who were injured from bullet wounds in one year. Take the students at Los Altos and Mountain View High Schools alone, that is slightly more than how many people were killed in the same year.
The shootings that have happened in schools throughout America over the past few months has divided Americans on what they need to do as a nation to stop additional shootings from occouring. Many believe that creating new laws on buying weapons by requiring background checks, holding adults liable for the actions of their kids and requiring safety devices on weapons to stop youngsters will stop these massacres in schools from happening, it 's a step in the right direction, however, it 's not good enough nor is it effective enough, America needs well regulated gun laws and the politicians must understand that the laws should be based on facts, not opinions. There are several problems that need to be looked at in order to determine which laws are necessary. According to a recent study, America has the highest amount gun related deaths every year in the world. “Germany, has 371 gun related deaths, France 255, Canada 165, the united kingdom 68, Australia 65, Japan 39 and America, 11,200”.
What’s missing from the typical kindergartener’s backpack? A gun. The ultimate solution to gun violence is more guns, isn’t that obvious? We are in need of guns everywhere to the point where our nation needs armed guards in every school. They say the more guns we have, the more gun violence there is, but in fact it does the complete opposite and solves gun violence.
Supporters of the age restriction increases believe that the young people are not able to fully grasp the importance of the safety when handling guns. According to The Washington Post, “... there are both cognitive and physical limitations in children that make it more difficult for children to understand and apply rules they are taught…” (In 30 States). This shows that while young may be taught the correct procedures and safety of guns, they are not able to fully understand and use the safety instructions. With this information, people argue that this may be a source of the issue.
The problem with gun violence in schools has existed for years, and something should be done to eliminate the problem that endangers students who attend schools every day. One recent incident with gun violence in schools occurred at Sandy Hook Elementary School where several young children were killed and many others injured (Elliott 529). Also, a bombing incident in 1927 killed thirty-seven children and was likely the start of school gun violence (Elliott 529). Children, who attend schools, sometimes do not feel safe because of the problem with gun
On, February 14, 2018, a mass school shooting in Florida got the nation’s attention, however, gun violence has always been an issue, and it is only getting worse. Now people are saying there needs to be something done, and there are many that agree. Starting off there should be stricter gun laws, because in today’s world it is too easy to get handguns and assault rifles. With, the capabilities a firearm holds, such as taking people’s lives there must be stricter restrictions that could help cut down the gun violence and save lives. Increasing the age of purchasing a firearm would be one step.
In today’s society, one of the most alienating issues in American politics is gun control. More specifically, the issue is whether or not guns should be banned in the United States. Some people would say that guns should be banned because it would reduce crime as a whole and keep citizens safer. These people, enthusiasts of stricter gun laws, fear being safe in their country where there are so many people who have access to guns. Opponents of this argument, however, also fear losing safety.
The use of and the owning of guns is a very hot and debated topic in society today. For many, this is a life and death debate due to the recent and numerous school shootings. These school shootings have caused an outcry for more gun control, specifically in relation to the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting. Despite these calls, increased gun control is not the answer. Most gun owners’ use their guns responsibly and for good purposes.
Problem Solution Paper 95% of people think that america needs stricter gun control laws, yet the amount of shootings in the past years has risen exponentially. Gun violence is a serious problem and the people of the United States have wanted to solve this problem this for a long time. If people feel scared to go to school (which should be a safe learning environment for all children and all ages) that is a problem, and it needs to be solved, or at the very least put in barriers to deal with the mental disabilities and amount of guns associated with this problem. There has been an exponential rise in shootings in America since the 20th century. In the 20th century there were 226 shootings, in the first 18 years of the 21st century there have been 211 shootings.
Guns have no role in our country schools. Schools and colleges are places of education. Students should be free to learn in an environment away from every day violence. The catastrophes that took place at Sandy Hook Elementary School, Columbine High School, and Virginia Tech. confirm the penetrating conclusion guns have in our nation’s schools. Violence on campus has Students, Parent, and University Staff all concerned and looking for preventative measures.
“Just in 2018 there has been 18 school shootings, on average per week” (snopes:How many school shootings have taken place so far in 2018). The incidents that have occurred have been a big impact in people 's lives. Yet no one with power has spoken about the problems regarding the recent shooting. See, there are two main sides of gun control, the side that agrees and the side that doesn’t. People who agree believe that no one should be able to own a gun, or that there should simply be stricter gun control laws.
In order to protect children and their family members, they should be taught the proper way on how to shoot guns. Gun safety needs to be taught to children to promote more respect for firearms while improving education and decreasing gun violence (Foley). Many accidental shootings happened in America in the past two or three years. One example is, a three year old accidentally reach into his pregnant mother’s purse and took out her pistol and shot his mom and dad. Now the child has to live with all that for the rest of his life knowing he shot his mom and dad, in 2015 toddlers in the United State accidently shot one person per week.
