In the end school shootings have been a big problem and over the years the government has done many things to protect us from deaths by firearms and school shootings. They have been making it harder and harder to obtain a firearm which is really what was necessary to do. Making it difficult to get a firearm into a school and knowing how to handle a school shooting situation will save lives if anything were to happen like that again. I feel gun control laws will get stricter and the schools and world will get safer.
I. Introduction Attention getter- If guns kill people, then spoons make people fat. Purpose statement- my vision for America is that the second amendment is upheld. Thesis statement- my three main points over this main topic are why they are tools, why we should be able to keep them, and current events
A simple way to stop school shootings in our district would be by eliminating all the factors that form a school shooter. Most school shooter suffered from bullying or had some sort of mental illness. In order to minimize the chance of a kid becoming a school shooter, we need to increase awareness.
The U.S is one of the biggest advocates for gun rights and also the world leading country for gun ownership. Most recent data shows that we hold first place for country with the most guns per capita at 88.8 per 100 persons.(cbcnews.com) You would think that a country that supports gun ownership that much would allow for them to be carried everywhere with certain exceptions. Our right to keep a gun is protected by the second amendment, which says “A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.” One of the most controversial topics regarding guns is weather or not we should be allowed to carry them on school buildings.
Now as a country we face a near epidemic of mass public shootings at a place that is supposed to be safe for children. After Sandy Hook, the issue became more urgent and the country took charge. New policies, security rises, and lockdown procedures are what saves kids now nearly 4 years since the Sandy Hook mass shooting. In the wake of a tragedy, the country rose to make everyday a safer one. Debates about gun control are still being argued in the White House, and once a changed is made perhaps the numbers of those lost due to gun violence will go down including those lives of children.
There have been more school shootings in the past 8 years than theres has been in the past fifty years. School shootings have gotten out of control. Kids are scared to go to school because they don’t think they are safe. Most schools do intruder drills, but schools could be doing more. One possibility is arming teachers which would provide a good deterrent to school shootings.
Students today live their day-to-day lives in constant fear of what seems inevitable. The United States has one of the highests rates of school shootings in the world. Society has become so desensitized to these shootings that they are no longer shocked to hear about another school falling victim to it. Even when students take a stand against gun violence, the only solution offered to them is a proposition to arm teachers. However, bringing more guns into a school will only further deteriorate the situation.
School shootings are happening much more often, and a lot of schools aren’t doing much about it. From 1999 to 2011 the average school shooting were about two to three a year, now there are close to twenty-five a year. I think that a successful way to keep school shootings from happening would be to arm our teachers. Sure, putting guns in our school could give mischievous kids more of an opportunity to make bad decisions, but I doubt it. If kids knew that there were guns in the school than they wouldn’t want to start a school shooting because they themselves wouldn’t want to get hurt.
This should not be a worry for the child or parents but it has to be because at this point any school is a threat. So a possible factor in decreasing shootings is arming teachers, by doing this teachers can fight back instead of shielding or running from the shooter. Reason #2 teachers can defend their students by changing this law and using correct training teachers should be able to carry a weapon. By doing this not only insure safety it will give relief for parents all over the country. This tactic will give school staffs a chance to outnumber a possible shooter.
Your child could be caught up in the next school shooting, and be killed. If only your school cared enough for their students and had a security guard, they would have been able to prevent the whole thing. Schools today still need more security, but how much security they have today, and what more security can and will prevent. Schools need more security today, we can reduce how many people die to school shootings each
Over the past few weeks, arming teachers has been a controversial topic throughout the country. School shootings have taken the lives of many over the past few years, yet they are becoming more and more frequent. In today’s society children shouldn’t have to go to school worried if they are going to be safe that day. If teachers are armed it will add that extra bit of protection to the children. A big question is if arming teachers is even going to matter if an active shooter happens to be in that school.
Legislation needs to take more of a stronger part in regulating gun control to avoid further situations like school shootings. Private companies, or any company for that matter, need to do more in prohibiting guns at the workplace, whether it be inside or in employees vehicles. I do believe that if you want to purchase a gun, then you should be required to take a class before obtaining your license. This way there will be a better appreciation for the
School shootings are starting to become a norm in today 's world. This is something we can only take precautions for but, we cannot completely stop school shootings from happening. Banning guns is not the option because the shooters are still going to find a way to get their guns. We should not punish everybody for the stupidity of some people 's actions. "At Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado two teens went on a shooting spree on April 20, 1999, killing 13 people and wounding more than 20 others before turning their guns on themselves and committing suicide" (Columbine Shooting, 2018).
School shootings and gun violence have regrettably become a major issue in America today. The frequency of these acts of hatred are increasing and an increasing number of people are debating about necessary precautions. The most recent school shooting in America occurred this past week and the victims of it are raising their voices for the world to hear. There needs to be better, more efficient policies put in place regarding school safety and gun control to ensure this type of heinous crime does not happen ever again. There are people who say this is a matter of mental illness and others who say this is about gun control.
Since the Columbine High School shooting, school shootings have become a common occurrence. People have become so accustomed to seeing them on the news, so we hardly bat an eye at them anymore. For every instance of a school shooting we see, there are hundreds of lawmakers making public that their thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families. Frankly, those thoughts and prayers are simply not enough anymore. The Parkland shooting is one of many school shootings, that have brought light to the subject of gun violence in schools, and it is clear, if it hasn’t been one already, that gun regulation needs to change.
“Get Down!” The teacher pushed the helpless little kindergarteners to the cold, hard floor as bullets shatter the window. Two more kids fall to the ground. A man in a black suit enters through what used to be the broken glass as two S.W.A.T. trucks pull into the school parking lot. Blood trickles out of the limp bodies of the dead children.
