Leader Competencies are leadership skills and behaviors that contribute to superior performance. Leaders outdated skills and behaviors encouraged change over many years. The three main categories of competences are to Lead, Develop, and Achieve. Army leaders serve to lead others, develop themselves, environment and profession as a whole, and to also achieve organizational goals. In order for an Army leader to lead they must apply the attributes to guide Soldiers towards a common goal and mission accomplishments. Lead is broken down into five sub topics and of those topics the most important ones to me are: builds trust, leads by example, and communicates. Of the eight sub topics the three most important ones to me are gets results, resources and priorities, and adjusts. Leaders get results by providing clear and understandable guidance for how and what needs to be done by a certain set of standards whether they are from higher powers or just the from the way that they would like things done. Leaders may also monitor those who are under them to help identify their strengths and help them with their weaknesses so that missions or goals are reached effectively and consistently. Managing resources is a big responsibility for leaders whether they be junior enlisted or officers, proper accountability of all resources is an essential phase that may determine the success rate of a mission or goal. Along with proper accountability of resources comes the factor of how to prioritize resources whether they be limited or plentiful. Leaders must also prioritize resources if they are limited by allocating the right amount of resources to the right individuals and they must always be prepared for the backlash that comes with having to make decisions on how much of a resource an individual gets, because not everyone will be happy with the decision you made and at times may feel like you are doing them wrong. Leader’s ability to adjust to situations is another big responsibility, as this is where the leaders and followers are easy to pick out. According to King’s College, leadership skills can be developed and learned by all. This may not, however, make an effective leader. An effective leader demands respect, is well liked by the people he is leading, and has a vision or purpose for his group. An effective leader demands respect.
LEADERSHIP QUALITIES 26. The dictionary meaning of Leadership is the action of leading a group of people or an organization, or the ability to do this. According to Dwight D. Eisenhower “Leadership is the art of getting someone else to do something you want done because he wants to do it. To become an effective Military Leader, one need to have some significant leadership qualities”.
Acquiring leadership skills along with a strong character and the sense to serve others is vital. A leader should be resourceful, dependable, selfless, and a good problem solver. Leaders set the ground rules for the behavior and performance of soldiers he or she is over. If they take liability for their achievements and their failures, it makes it easy for soldiers to admire and emulate. Moreover, it sets the morals and principles that are essential towards achieving accountability. Accountability promotes trust. In different situations, accountability means that one is ready to commit to something and be responsible enough to see it to the end.
Among these five characteristics; military expertise, honorable service, trust, esprit de corps, and stewardship of the profession, I believe that military expertise and stewardship of the profession are the two characteristics that make a leader excel in the presence of their peers. ADRP 1 defines military expertise as, “Military expertise is the design, generation, support, and ethical application of land power, primarily in unified land operations, and all supporting capabilities essential to accomplish the mission in defense of the American people”. In order to gain trust from your subordinates for them to follow your guidance, a leader must have military expertise. Without being an expert in your field, subordinates will not trust your guidance provided unto them. ADRP 1 defines Stewardship of the Profession as, “Stewardship is the responsibility of Army professionals to ensure the profession maintains its five essential characteristics now and into the future”.

It is easy to get caught up in details but that should never stop you from seeing the big picture, Helping the people. It is so important for a leader to connect with the people because whether you realize it or not they look up to you for support and follow your example. A leader cares about the people and will take the time to show them they care. Leaders will try to listen and understand everyone. There is so much good you can do as a leader as long as you put in some hard work!
Leadership There lot of meaning will come to our mind when we hear the word "leadership". For example it will be a Political leader, an explorer, cutting or an executive that is developing his planning of company's management to beat the competition. Leaders assist themselves and others to do the proper things. They decide orders, create an exciting vision, and build something new.
Military leadership is the process of influencing others to accomplish the mission by providing purpose, direction, and motivation. Another significant aspect of emphasized by the army is charisma. Therefore, army strategy to have a great leader is to choose people with high charisma since follower are always drawn to leaders with charisma. By having a high charisma they can command the follower easily. The basic task of a leader are: achieve the mission with zero fatality.

To be a successful leader I also agree that one needs to have certain characteristic and skills. A leader needs to be able to simple lead, as you have stated. They need to direct and guide people to fulfill shared goals. Communication is also another huge skill. A leader needs to be able to clearly communicate, build relationships, motivate others, inspire others, and be a role model to create a positive work environment and culture that will accept change and innovation in the company.
