The ability to be a leader and to continue to acquire leadership skills relies on the individual that motivates, disciplines, and respects the diverse groups around them. Admirable skills that set the individual leader apart from others are not always common in today 's society, but when the individual takes initiative, has self-confidence and perseveres through rugged times, they show society what it needs to see. Everyone has had bumps in their road to success. I was diagnosed with type one diabetes when I was just two years old. Many people see this condition as an obstacle that could hold be back from succeeding, but I see it as an over abundance of opportunities in life. From diabetic summer camps focused on leadership to fall retreats spent learning about what it actually means to be a leader, my knowledge of qualities including courage, integrity, and communication have expanded greatly. When most people think of a leader, they picture the president of a club or an organization. However, it is my belief that a good leader is actually just a good person who leads by example, rather than any other authority. In this context, I satisfy the leadership requirement for the NHS. As I have mentioned before, I have always been ready to help others. Not only am I ready to help as an individual, I am also able to work well with a team.
New-York Representative Bertrand Hollis Snell took on a plethora of important roles and leadership positions during his time in politics, with one of the most prominent being his position as minority leader during the Seventy-second through Seventy-fifth Congresses. Staying determined and never giving up is key to being a great leader, once you have done everything to help somebody as a leader then it is up to them but never give in before the job is
My increased desire to become an Alpha Man has been driven by my lifelong history and encounters with many of my past educators that are Alphas. I grew up in a typical underrepresented environment that had a big impact on my everyday life, from drugs, gangs, and a lack of ambition. Somehow that changed when I went to school, there where men in my schools that looked the same as the ones in my community, but the way they dressed and carried themselves was different. I later learned they were men of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc.
My interest in the JROTC academy comes from a well use of citizenship and leadership. While I was on a trip with the People to People Leadership Ambassadors program to Washington DC, I learned the importance of building character, work ethic, and leadership. We studied the History of the United States of America by visiting museums and other historical sites as well as doing team building activities. This made me realize that I am proud to be an American. I also noticed that applying myself to be a role model and great leader really changes the perspective of things.
Boy Scouts has taught me many skills and truths for life, but no skill has had as much impact as servant leadership---the ability to gain the trust of those around you by helping them. Being active and a leader in a group happens naturally now; after years of following, I find myself leading my friends. Whether it was because of being a Senior Patrol Leader (SPL) and Eagle Scout in my troop or, I have drawn in new friends who have grown to look to me as a leader. At the beginning of this school year I drew in many new friends who look to me as a leader. This year I was fulltime dual enrolled at the University of North Georgia which gave me the opportunity to make new friends.
By active community service, leadership roles, and hard work, I have learned the incredible importance of academic achievement, character, leadership, and service. Through these things, I have been substantially prepared by the Beta Club to serve others as I depart high school and

I would like to join NYC Ladders for Leaders because I believe this program could help me in various ways. First, it would help me gain more work experiences. Even though school is important, I believe work experiences are equally important. There are some skills and knowledge that cannot be learned in a classroom; for instance, in a classroom, we just read about how to respond to different situations. Undergoing the situation in real life can be very different and can teach us something we can’t learn in school.
Acquiring leadership skills along with a strong character and the sense to serve others is vital. A leader should be resourceful, dependable, selfless, and a good problem solver. I have led in many ways- inside and outside of school. Last year as a tenth grader, I was class secretary for Class Council.
I have an ambitious goal, but a necessary one. I am highly interested in attending the Pioneer Prep Leadership Institute for many different reasons, but one reason would be that it most definitely encompasses my passion for pursuing a higher education. I hope to gain an experience that allows me to make that leap out of my comfort zone. Programs such as this one are the most valuable and important way to advocate for constructing our path to college, confronting current issues that limit us from reaching beyond, integrating social awareness and so much more. There is a myriad of personal skills and abilities that I know I can strengthen or gain and this includes my self-identity, community, people skills, communication, critical thinking and
In order to be a strong leader one must understand the role leaders play as well identify different traits that resemble leadership qualities within themselves. The article I reviewed was Leadership of Healthcare Professionals: Where do we stand? and it describes the different types of leadership approaches and theories that can be effective within the healthcare setting. The main objective for a leader is to adapt to change as well as be able to cope with change. Leaders are known to have strong influential skills that can affect their team or the environment that they work in.
I have developed leadership qualities when my Tae Kwon Do coach trusted me to lead our team during national championships. This has led me to then hold various leadership positions in undergraduate and dental school clubs. Moreover, my critical thinking abilities have excelled from being a mathematics and physics tutor. Tutoring has always challenged me to think outside the box in complicated problems, and this would allow me to use my creative skills when facing complex cases in my field. Persistence is another key element that is crucial in success.
Another thing about leadership is its an art. People can’t just become a leader, it’s inside of them just waiting for an opportunity to reveal itself. “Educators, health professionals, and parents all agree that as society grows more complex, young people are in greater need than ever for grounding in the basic values that determine character”(Hirschmann 12). This shows that the higher ups in
Furthermore, a study made by Amit et al about leadership-shaping experience found that a group of soldiers who had more leadership experiences were perceived to be leaders compared to those who did not . This points to the fact that exercises in self-development and discipline were key to building leadership qualities. Leaders as mentioned before are role-models in society and when those leadership qualities are nurtured, the society as a whole benefits from them.
