Who is Martin Luther King “ I have a dream”. This is one of his most well known speeches. He was the one led the march on Washington, he used nonviolent ways to help everyone have equal civil rights. This man was born on January 15, 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia and died on April 4, 1968 in Memphis, TN. He was in charge of the African-American Civil Rights Movement. Martin Luther King Jr was a very good man he helped people get equal civil rights, he led the march on Washington, and he nonviolently helped get people civil rights. He never fought for civil rights using guns, swords, or any weapons. He used something that is stronger and sharper than any blade or weapon of this earth, this is the power of voice, and the power of peace, he was able to gather hundreds of people to help in the fight for civil rights and was able to stop people from using weapons to fight for civil rights. Some of his great achievements include leading the Montgomery bus boycott, founding the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, and helping organize the March on Washington for jobs and freedom.
It is impossible to combat injustice by appeasing those who are injust. King’s efforts combined with other civil rights activist’s allowed African Americans to gain many rights that they previously did not have. Martin Luther King was arrested for prostesting and was placed in Birmingham jail from which he wrote a famous letter explaining his rationale for his actions.
He was an activist that made a significant impact on the world and especially America because he fought for his cause when segregation was an important thing in the US. A big time that he stood up for his and a lot of colored people's rights was at the Selma to Montgomery march in 1965 and this was an important protest because it was a bunch of people fighting for the right to vote. Also, Martin Luther King got shot on April 4, 1968, in a hotel at 6:05 when he was standing outside on the balcony of his hotel room. James Earl Ray was the guy that shot him, and he did it because he thought that the colored should not have any rights and he did not like that he was making change in the US. Martin Luther King supports this quote because he fought for years and years and he finally got what he was working for.
My Standpoint Civil Disobedience is an effective method of change that has been used throughout history against unjust laws. “Antigone” The story of “Antigone” uses this idea of civil disobedience through Antigone who defies the law given by her new king. As Creon starts off his first day of work he is emotional due to the loss of his eldest son. Because Creon is so emotional, he states that the person who brought war to the land causing his eldest son’s death, shall not be buried.
