It was the middle of January, dead of winter of my eighth grade year. Coach Brooklyn Howell, the Lady Cougars basketball coach came up to me and said “come tonight, 5:30 at Byrnes Freshman Academy to try out and see if you like lacrosse.” I did not really know if I wanted to play in the cold, because I was so used to playing in a warm gym during the cold winter months. Lacrosse really did not seem like a sport that I wanted to play. But I tried it out anyway. It was 50 degrees outside. I had on leggings, warm fuzzy socks, a long sleeve sweatshirt, tennis shoes, and a jacket. But I was still cold. I kept telling myself only one hour, I only have an hour left. Then I can go home to a warm house. I was really new at this game. The other people …show more content…
The second game of the season, Barton College in North Carolina came down to look at the Byrnes Lady Rebels Varsity lacrosse team. I was the only one out of seniors, juniors, and sophomores that they wanted. I really could not believe it. I was already getting looked at by colleges my ninth grade year. The feeling was overwhelming and I was so excited for what my future holds in lacrosse. I loved that I could share my accomplishments with my family and friends. The season had finally come to an end, and I was really delighted to of won the All-Region Women 's Lacrosse award. I also won MVP my freshman year. I was also getting looked at by three colleges, and a sports agency called saying that I was the only one that they seen who had the potential to play at a college level sport.
In conclusion, Lacrosse is a sport that I love and take seriously each and everyday. Being a female lacrosse player can sometimes be a difficult thing. It can be difficult when facing an opponent that is bigger than you, or when you have terrible referees. But loving lacrosse will never change for me. I have big dreams that I want to achieve in lacrosse, and I won’t let anyone or anything stop me from what I love
Failure for Moorestown girls lacrosse is not an option. This powerhouse lacrosse program had a winning streak of eighty-eight consecutive games. My sophomore year the program experienced their first loss in what seemed like forever. Continuously, the timer on the scoreboard got closer to triple zeros, everyone’s hearts went into their throats anticipating the end. The opposing team was up by one and were stalling the ball.
Lacrosse is a sport like no other. When one plays lacrosse it is an experience that can not be forgotten. It is important to know the four basic things about lacrosse. The first thing that is important to know, is how to pass, passing is helpful because in girls lacrosse, you need to pass three times before you shoot. The second thing one needs to know is how to cradle, when you cradle it keeps the ball in the stick, when one runs.
However, I ignored them and pursued my own objectives. In my freshman year of high school, I was the founder of the lacrosse club at my school. Apart from having a rigorous school schedule filled with honors classes, and being involved in football and FBLA, it was my responsibility to bring the club to life. I discovered my math teacher used to play college lacrosse, and I had always been interested in lacrosse. I approached him with the idea and he encouraged it and told me if I got the players, he would help coach.
In my research i also found that many people have not even seen the sport being played. Its seems like the sport is very misunderstood, the game of lacrosse over the years has built a widespread number of player and views as the college game continues to grow. According to Insider sport in 2013 they said that lacrosse is the fastest growing sport in North america. As Well as the game having a large following for the field game but also the box version of the game spreading from more northern parts of america and canada.
Luckily, one of my teammates from travel allowed me to play for his school's team, which I did for all of middle school. This was a really good
As you run down the field cradling the lacrosse ball in your stick, it feels like every other girl is barreling toward you at full speed. There is no better feeling, though, than to shoot the ball and watch it sail past the goalie into the net. Growing up in Baltimore, lacrosse is practically a religion. However, I never really felt any interest in lacrosse. In the Spring of my junior year, one of my friends begged me to try out for my high school’s lacrosse team.
On the world stage, there is a World Lacrosse Men’s Championship which is where the best of the best of teams travels from across the world to compete against each other. While this tournament is a good way of finding out who are some of the best lacrosse teams in the world are, the Olympics are also another important tournament for world lacrosse. Lacrosse was an Olympic sport in 1904 & 1908 and is on a list of sports to be considered for the 2028 summer Olympics. If lacrosse were to be added to the Olympics, the lacrosse tournament would take place every 4 years, while the rest of the playoffs and championships that were mentioned happen
During my short life, I have not had many life altering experiences; however, one thing that has changed me for the better is playing hockey. Since I started playing hockey in eighth grade it has been something I have become passionate about for various reasons. One reason is my love for the game in general, and more specifically for playing goalie, the one position that holds the balance of the scoreboard. The second reason is being a part of a team. This is important to me because it gives a strong sense of purpose to the player.
I started playing lacrosse as soon as I could walk. Since then, the game has become interwoven into who I am and I have developed a deep passion for it. Life tends to get stressful, whether It is constantly worrying about grades, due dates, or tests. As I handle all of the stress high school has to offer, I often forget about the kid inside me. Lacrosse allows me to bring out my inner kid.
But I disagree, lacrosse has been the fastest growing sport in the USA, it has also been expanding worldwide with popularity. Kids in Africa have been playing lacrosse with what they have in view of the fact that its popularity has been spreading worldwide making the youth want to play the sport, giving it the potential to be a worldwide sport. In the article, Youth1 says, “It’s exploding in popularity. Lacrosse is currently the fastest growing sport at the NCAA level, and has been for the last six years.” Lacrosse is a sport that 10 years ago very few people even knew what it was, then a man named Paul Rabil made the game popular and made it what it is today.
Another great thing about being part of a team is that you pick each other up. For example if somebody is feeling down it is your team 's responsibility to lift you up. There is no greater feeling than being a lacrosse
Lacrosse is a wonderful sport to play, lots of fun doing it and lots of fun being a fan too. From the mid-1490s, of just a stick and a net attached to the end and some trees as goals to today's version of playing Lacrosse, it’s all the same sport. Whether it's being a Goalie, Attacker, Midfielder, or a Defender they all help the whole team and play as one team. It doesn't matter if you're young or old or the best player in the world to being a beginner they all to do it no matter if it is for fun or it's your
I was scrolling through lists on the internet of universities with accelerated soccer programs when I came across the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs. I was intrigued by this school and began searching the internet in an urge to find more out about this school. After doing more research about this university, I talked my parents into taking me back to Colorado Springs to go to a soccer camp. The morning before I had to go to camp, my father took me to Seven Falls, the same place I had been 11 years before.
The prompt for this essay is quite simple: write about how your involvement in sports, community service, leadership, academics, and other extracurricular activities have affected your overall character. However, I feel as though this essay would be better if focused on my career in lacrosse and how it’s changed my life over the past five years, helping me throughout the good and bad, the simple and the challenging. Lacrosse has been a part of my life for about five years now. I started playing when I was in fourth grade, simply because I wanted to branch out and try something new, exciting, and a little bit out of my comfort zone.
