I learned a lot about leadership from two summers of a school activity called Camp Ophelia. Camp Ophelia is a camp to help girls understand the importance of how anger affects our relationships in our day to day lives and friendships. We worked with team building excises to learn to work to together more in the form of arts, physical activities/ exercise and conversation focusing on how to become healthy physically, emotionally and socially in order to gain and maintain healthy relationships with others, particularly other girls. Some of the activities included Zumba, making stepping stones, a lamp, and a bench engraved with the qualities of friendship. I have a high regard for freedom, justice, and democracy. I think everyone should have equal …show more content…
I always try to be myself. I always try to make my family laugh and help around the house whenever possible. I love to help my younger brother to learn; by sitting and reading to him because to me reading and education are important to all of us. I try to help everyone in my family, either with washing dishes or keeping my brother quiet when my mom has a migraine. I also like to make my brother feel better when he is sick or hurt. When my brother has no one to play with I will play with him. At my school, I volunteered to do a G.R.E.A.T. project; gang resistance education and training project. I made a poster to promote the stop to bullying and to get people to speak up. I always try to take opportunities to help make my school a better place. I would be honored to become a member of the National Junior Honor Society because I feel this is a great opportunity for me to help out more, either at school or in my community. It will challenge me to continue to do my very best in school. I just learned that this could help me with my goals of becoming an astronomer by increasing my education and chances of receiving a scholarship for a good university that specializes in the
One leadership experience I had was through my athletics at my high school. Every year, our high school volleyball program hosts a camp for young girls to come learn and develop her volleyball skills, as well as do arts and crafts and make new friends. As a varsity player, we all were assigned a different group of girls to be in charge of. We also were given a junior varsity player to help us. I became a leader in this area because I was more experinced and organized.
I have attended several leadership camps and seminars, but there is always room for improvement in regards to leadership abilities. Having a higher leadership role than what I already have will significantly improve my knowledge of leadership and better refine the leadership skills that I already have. There are a lot of
The summer before my senior year, I attended various leadership camps and clinics in order to better prepare myself for the task ahead. At these leadership
The best leader I’ve worked with was my Junior High Football coach. My coach used the Path-Goal Theory. I hated football and saw no future for me in that sport. I was teased and literally quit the year before at a different school. I heard about try outs at another school and decided to go.
It may seem as if this is the standard of society, but these ideas of equality have been fought over since the beginning of written history. I believe that every human beings should be treated equally according to their human rights. Humans rights are the belief that everybody should be treated equally and with dignity no matter what their circumstances which mean nobody should be tortured or treated in an inhuman or degrading way. Nobody has the right to own another person or to treat them unequally. Each of us is different in our own special way but we also have the common qualities that make us all humans.
To be in the Science National Honor Society would be one of many great accomplishments that would make me proud. Science is part of life and drives me to pursue a future in that field. To be part of this society would help me gain a better outlook of the world around us, and answer questions that may appear to be unsolvable. Being able to live in a new era of science opens up opportunities everywhere to learn the new technology and new found knowledge on science discoveries, and it would be an honor to be a part of something on the horizon. I am driven by science and want to learn about newer discoveries that are being found everyday because those studies usually interest me to push myself into becoming more eager to study these types of
I absolutely love working with high school students. I taught high school before, but counseling in a high school creates a different dynamic with the students. I love interaction, relationship with students, counseling and diversity of each day. Working with students and families through the college admissions process is quite rewarding and provides a nice balance to the problems that I handle day to day. I love the positive and proactive spirit of applying to college and the excitement it brings to the student.
Leadership is a quality that seems to be fading upon this new generation. There are many young adults that have capability to thrive and become a leader of their community. I grew up in a small town of with a population of 10,000 where people would try to be the change in the world. Leadership isn't a skill that you can learn, it's a skill gained only through experiences. I attended the High School Leadership Conference held at OU as a junior.
I love working with people. I enjoy working with groups to help inspire excitement and understanding of the challenge at hand, then leading them through that process. I became a Girl Scout in elementary school and this is where I began to see the importance and excitement of leadership. As a Girl Scout, our troop worked as a team on many projects that helped people, but we also had many leadership opportunities to provide encouragement and support to others to achieve the goal we had set. My leadership skills continued to grow in my band classes.
The movie that has taught me the most about leadership is, “Shawshank Redemption”. The main character Andy, a quiet but intelligent banker was sent to prison for the murder of his wife and her lover. He maintained his innocence but his quiet and somewhat cold demeanor made it hard to believe him. Andy developed a close friendship with another inmate and throughout the movie it was evident that he had great emotional intelligence and empathy toward others. His quiet but persistent and intelligent perseverance led him to receive funding for a library.
Being a NAVY SEAL takes a lot of hard work and training. you have to know what it takes to be a good leader. it requires experience and an understanding of being part of a team. Knowing how to work towards a goal whether that goal is to drive a ball down the field or to train for an event with other team members is important to your future training. Whether you are a team captain, class president, or head of a community service group - all of these skills will help you understand what it means to lead and follow orders.
I decided to sign up for Camp Sunshine to make my resume look better. I was dreading the camp until the day it began. I couldn’t imagine spending hours with children I didn’t know. I asked myself, how could I help these girls who are so different than me? We have nothing in common.
Strong leadership is a critical part of achievement for personal growth as well as initiating team and organizational success. Fundamental leadership values such as collaboration, self-respect, competency, creativity, wisdom, honesty and integrity are essential for a nursing leader to possess. Leader in the context of the practice and profession of nursing, may be defined as one who possesses clinical expertise in a specialty practice area or one who uses interpersonal skills to enable nurses and other healthcare providers to deliver quality patient care. Leadership is a complex, multifaceted phenomenon. It is possible that each person has this trait and a set of skills that can be learned, developed, and nurtured.
I believe this because it has been the thing that has shaped my life to the point that it is now. I came to see that leadership is in all areas of life and is crucial to maintaining a successful lifestyle. For example, the instructors at Wentworth would force upon us seemingly impossible tasks and group builders. One of which involved two platforms suspended in the air, three planks, and our objective to build a bridge crossing point A to point B. We had no rope to tie the boards and no additional equipment to use besides what we had immediately available.
I have been part of two volunteer organizations during my high school career. The first one, KIP (Kids in Partnership), is an organization that helps kids and adults enhance their reading, writing, and language skill. I tutored Josue every tuesday for an hour. During that hour, we played skill building games after I helped him on his homework. With this, I was able to positively impact Josue academics.
