If responsible students have the right to defend themselves at home and out in public, then why shouldn't they be allowed to fight for themselves while furthering their education at college? College students should be authorized to bear guns on campus, if they are legally licensed to carry concealed weapons. In today's world you don't know what will happen to you each day and it is the sad truth that students have to think: what if someone tried to rob me; what if I am a target for carjacking; what if someone open fired on everyone? Students start to question how safe is their campus really is. The United States has millions of guns and most people who own guns and carry them are law-abiding citizens, like you and I. In addition to holstering a gun a person has to be licensed by the state of residence, so students will have training and knowledge of firearms and their power. In contrast, there are some people who strongly oppose campus carry; they believe that students having guns will increase campus violence and shootings, however, this is not the case. Gun Control keep School Safe The 21st century has brought out a lot of violence not only in the communities in general but it also puts the lives of students in school in danger. Individuals should be allowed to carry a concealed weapon if they choose to in order to be able to feel safe weather the person is a teacher or a student. The right to carry Teachers in todays society should have the right to obtain permit and carry a weapon to school if they choose to.
Teachers should not be armed in schools because the could not handle a real situation, and the liability is too much of a risk. To elaborate, it is widely agreed that a student’s well-being is a teacher’s concern. For six to eight hours every day for 5 days a week, the life of the student is in the teacher’s hands. However, a teacher has never been expected to arm themself to protect a student until now.

The supporters for concealed carry on college campuses argue that students and teachers should be able to open carry on campus because it will reduce the number of school shootings. The great state of “Texas has made carrying a concealed weapon on college campuses legal as of August 2016” (New York Times).
Several studies mention that licensed concealed carry weapons aren’t involved in crimes that happen on campus. Certain individuals that do commit crimes on and off campus, generally don’t go through background checks to obtain legal concealed weapons. Gun permit requirements vary by state but most require that applicants are the legal minimum age, complete a safety course and have sound criminal and mental histories (Collins). Allowing students to carry concealed weapons on campus could be considered dangerous; however, having these students’ complete safety courses and go through testing that proves they are mentally capable could prevent it from being dangerous. Certain campuses also don’t allow students to carry conceal in classrooms or in dorms.
However, for some people, the sight of an open gun will not make them feel safe and uneasy. By allowing open carry, you are ensuring trust amongst your peers and those around you to protect you with your life; however, relying on a stranger to protect your life is a gamble and one that several people are not will to make. Finally, open carry on school campuses will lead to more violence. As reported in various school shootings, such the shooting in Albemarle High School in North Carolina on September 2014, some shootings were caused by arguments between two students. The incident, and several others public shooting incidents, would have been avoided if the shooter did not have a weapon on his person and if the country had more strict gun control laws.

Hypothetically, a law is passed stating that teachers are allowed to carry guns in school. In a sick twisted world, the teacher becomes the school shooter. Your student is in class and their teacher pulls out their government funded school weapon and starts shooting. How is your child supposed to protect themselves if the approved district teacher starts shooting the students with a malicious intent. Teachers should not be allowed to carry guns at school.
Lot of times instead shooting the shooter students might miss the target shoot other people. In addition, when police comes it will be very hard for him to find the initial shooter. A few years ago, a student named Amanda Carpenter attended the University of Nevada at Reno. She was walking to her car from class when she was attacked and raped. This student felt as if she had been allowed to carry a concealed gun, she probably would not have gotten raped that night (Wiseman, 2012). There are many misconceptions about carrying a concealed gun, everyone is not criminals, and everyone will not commit a crime. A thorough background check, training, and the passing of a test should qualify people the right to carry a concealed gun everywhere.
