I undoubtedly believe that teachers in Australia should not be allowed to carry guns at school. I do not believe the public should have the rights to guns in Australia, only the high and certain members of the police force and the Australian defence force should be allowed access to guns only when on active duty. Even though I don't think teachers should be allowed to have or carry firearms anywhere, I do believe everyone should be able to defend him or her selves. Teachers should be allowed to carry guns to defend and protect themselves and their students and so that they can take immediate action against oncoming threats or violence. On the other hand, teachers carrying guns could just make it more accessible to reach firearms and it could just …show more content…
If only we could get someone to the school the second anything happened. If we could do that then these incidents would soon become a thing of the past. If teachers were to be trained they would stop the horrible letters and phone calls parents get or even worse hear it on the news, they would be able to fight back or at least by the police force some time to arrive on the scene. It would make students feel safer at school, knowing that there is someone to protect them. The buro of gun violence told us that "There have been 23 school shootings in America this year, that is nearly one every other week," And in every single one of these school shootings there have been fatalities and/or injuries to people. Oh no no no these aren't just people they are children, young minds, people who haven't experienced life, people that only got a sliver of what life could have been. All of this loss and suffering could be prevented if we armed our teachers and gave them a fighting chance, couldn't
If somone in all these cases of college shooting or any school shooting if one person had a gun and stopped the guy then there would be less people dead and less injured. Guns in school a good idea what about having guns in military recruiting
I do wonder that if one teacher could have had a gun and saw the shooter in a hallway of Sandy-Hook Elementary, how many children would still be alive today? I know according to the facts, most shots miss the target, but what about if one didn’t miss? I believe it’s worth training teachers, physically and psychologically, on how to appropriately handle a school shooting, while carrying a fire
Students today live their day-to-day lives in constant fear of what seems inevitable. The United States has one of the highests rates of school shootings in the world. Society has become so desensitized to these shootings that they are no longer shocked to hear about another school falling victim to it. Even when students take a stand against gun violence, the only solution offered to them is a proposition to arm teachers. However, bringing more guns into a school will only further deteriorate the situation.
Teachers could feel more comfortable in their classrooms if they knew they could protect themselves and their students from violent threats. Schools being a gun free zone are a target for violent
This should not be a worry for the child or parents but it has to be because at this point any school is a threat. So a possible factor in decreasing shootings is arming teachers, by doing this teachers can fight back instead of shielding or running from the shooter. Reason #2 teachers can defend their students by changing this law and using correct training teachers should be able to carry a weapon. By doing this not only insure safety it will give relief for parents all over the country. This tactic will give school staffs a chance to outnumber a possible shooter.
What a lot of people do not take into consideration is that the teachers must go through training and have to be liable to the responsibilities they are taking once they have a concealed carry weapon. Arming teachers could help lower the number of school shootings because the reaction times will be much faster, and it will add a bit of security to the children. Arming teachers will help lower the number of school shootings. If teachers are liable and are fine with carrying concealed weapons in schools, they would be able to respond to the site of the shooting much faster than it would be waiting for the police to arrive. Apart from having faster reaction times to the shooting, arming teachers will also add extra security to many students.
In the past two year, there has been 161 school or attempted school shootings which averages to nearly one every week. () It seems like every day there is a new article or story on another school shooting and because it is becoming such common news it seems just as if it was another static.(is this a run on?) Shootings are becoming more relevant in our everyday live than ever before and the government is taking no action on changing loose gun control laws in the United States. Now the schools and states are taking matters into their own hands by designing and adopting new programs to increase survival in case of a shooter. Schools are teaching young children to high school how to defend against a shooter and it is not a viable method of dealing with school shootings.
Though guns are good protection for schools, teachers shouldn’t be allowed to carry guns on school grounds. But other people think that it’s a good that teachers are being armed and that these flaws are due to the past shooting that had occured. Guns could potentially protect a class in many dangerous situations. But just think of all the bad things that could be way worse than a school shooting. A teacher could have a bad day and pull the trigger out of anger, or a teacher could try to scare a student and accidently set off the gun.
So far, 9 states, including WIsconsin and Kansas, allow guns on school campuses. With all of these school shootings and bombings happening everywhere, why shouldn’t we arm teachers to protect the students in case of anything happening like this? Things like these happen because there is little to no protection in schools. By training and certifying teachers to help protect the kids, schools could become safer places for them. Of course, not everyone would agree upon arming teachers, but if those people look at what potential good can come out of it, then they can realize that by doing this, schools would be safer for them and their children.
If teachers were specially trained to use guns the same way as police are, in my opinion they should be treated the same way. These school attacks last around 3 minutes and it takes around 5-9 minutes for police to arrive which is another reason why arming teachers could prevent deaths by reacting rapidly to the intruder. Another reason would be the fact that the government are already back peddling on raising the age which a gun can be purchased meaning school shootings are still as common. I also feel that if teachers were to be in possesion of a gun at their work, they should recieve a slight increase in wages which would make more teachers want to be specially
Unlike professional shooters, teachers must undergo a series of training in order to obtain a gun. Without the proper protection and training, which was not included in the resolution, would guarantee that the weapons would fall under the wrong hands of the students. Everytown Research states, “Among shootings at K-12 schools in which the age of the shooter was known, 56 percent (39 of 70) were perpetrated by minors.” The resolution states that all teachers would be armed, but, if the teachers were to be armed, the teachers would traumatize the students mentally away from them. Hamby, a research professor in the department of education states, “ ...the links between exposure to weapons violence and negative outcomes of trauma in kids (including depression, anxiety and aggression).
Someone bursts through the school, into the cafeteria, the library, an auditorium, or even in a classroom. Every day the threat looms over us. Haunting us with its increasing numbers. We live in fear of a school shooter. And I will not stand for it.
Hypothetically, a law is passed stating that teachers are allowed to carry guns in school. In a sick twisted world, the teacher becomes the school shooter. Your student is in class and their teacher pulls out their government funded school weapon and starts shooting. How is your child supposed to protect themselves if the approved district teacher starts shooting the students with a malicious intent. Teachers should not be allowed to carry guns at school.
Policies for School Shooting Prevention The recent shooting in Parkland, Florida at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School by Nicolas Cruz left 17 dead and 14 injured. People heard about this and want to take action to prevent others from doing the same. Parents want to know that schools are taking measures and making policies that will help prohibit these things from happening. Some ways that we can help to counteract school shootings and prevent severe injuries and deaths is by having armed guards/officers at our school, arming teachers that are qualified with guns, and enabling the 'red flag ' law.
Some people believe teachers should be allowed to keep a gun in the class room now. According to Melanie Spina,”…we experienced yet another school shooting, making it the 46th shooting just this year.” Kids can get their hands on guns whether it is their father’s gun or form the guy sitting on the corner selling guns to anyone with the cash. Adults just don’t act responsibly. Parents don’t teacher there kids that life is not like a video game, there is no reset button after you shoot somebody.
