Thank you for giving me this chance to talk about my English class, it was very excited to be a part of English 101 this quarter. We act as a family in this class by helping each other in writing, discussions stories and responding to each other. To be honest, I worked very hard this quarter and I focused more on my English class rather than other classes I had taken in SFCC. Writing is something not easy when it comes to my mind, because I am an international student and it is a differencet from my writing style and English writing style, so I should separate between them. I would not say writing English assignment is very hard for me, but I mean I make some mistakes. We wrote four paper assignments this quarter, two of them about the story we read in class, one from a story and outside material and one about English 101 class at itself which is this paper. We must submit the rough draft before the due date of the assignment, which helps us to have clarification from our instructor and from a classmate. I am always improving after each paper I wrote, because I follow up with the comment I received, edit my paper then make an appointment with my instructor before I submit my final draft. These comments make me feel confident in the next paper. Writing in something that you can improve your knowledge and the way of thinking, comparing to my papers, I will discuss how I developed revisions strategies, learned proper citation, and how pre-writing can help improve my writing.
Preparation is the key to successfully navigating any writing assignment. Thus far, I have found this class to be beneficial in this regard. To start, the readings that we have discussed have been very stimulating from a creative standpoint. This is important since imagination is necessary to properly convey one’s thoughts and feelings. Likewise, the responses and subsequent class discussions have further served to promote abstract and analytical thinking.
Before this class, I perceived myself as a poor writer. When someone has never been taught the proper way to write a paper, you struggle through college SOC 300 (Dr. Stephen Adair) and hoped to get more out of SOC 478 (Dr. Fumilayo Showers) as you attend classes. I never thought about the process that it took to write any paper before these classes. However, these two professors have been very inspirational toward my writing.
A semester have passed in a blink of our eyes and we are heading toward the end. Therefore, it is time to reflect upon my writing skills. Earlier in the semester, I aimed for an A in this class and I also wish to become a more efficient writer. In order to do so, I planned to use a lot of the available resources such as the writing lab, Learning Curve, and
Every student has their own writing process. Writing process ways is the student's way to have the best writing assignments and make who ever read it understand their main idea. In this essay I am going to explain my own writing process for various type. In chapter 4 by Keith Hjortshoj “How Good Writing Gets Written” which talks about how should develops their writing skills and gives them some tips that they should use in their writing process.
When it comes to writing essays, everyone is unique in their own writing style. This means that each individual person has their own successes and failures within their writing. If someone grades or peer edits my paper, it gives me the opportunity to understand how I can improve my writing. Over the course of this semester, I have written many papers that have allowed me to recognize the successes and failures in my writing. When someone takes a writing class like this, they are able to identify what they are skilled at, if anything, and what they need to improve upon.
An excellent writer might revise their work by adding missed words or phrases, fix misspelled words, or reorganize their thoughts. Revision gives the writer a chance to see if their writing is really worth saying and if the reader will understand it. The writer should think “Does the introduction clearly state what you intend it to? Will your aims be clear to the reader?” My opinion about writing has changed positively because i now understand why writing is important for daily life.
English class has never really been my strongest subject, in regards to fully understanding the work and criteria. The lack of confidence coming into this year was unreal but I feel as though I’ve improved significantly. Having never been taught claim, data, warrant I was a little apprehensive when it came time to writing papers. Improving my writing skills was actually a goal I had strived to meet, and after realizing the college level would be much more difficult, I found it imperative to strengthen my writing capabilities. I grew more confident in expressing what I had to say and how I said it.
In truth, my writing since the beginning of the quarter has improved because I remember for my first assignment I was very lost and confused. However, as each assignment went by I gained more confidence on what to write. In my first critical reading assignment I was unsure on how to write and deliver my ideas, but on the next critical reading assignment I had a clearer idea on what needs to be written and how I wanted to write it. Therefore, producing a more organized and nicely flowing respond. Participating in small group discussions broaden my scope and allowed me to accept new ideas that I could incorporate into my writings.
I have learned a lot about how to improve my writing and make it more engaging over this past semester. When writing the first paper I learned a lot about how I write and how to improve my writing. At the beginning of this paper I learned how to plan a paper, by writing down ideas and notes down on a separate sheet of paper. This really helps to narrow down the ideas that I was passionate about. While writing this paper I learned how to self-correct mistakes that I would make a lot throughout my paper.
To ensure a good grade on this paper I self edited countless times. In addition to self editing, I also had several teachers, peers, and my parents edit my paper. I believe that my use of the writing process helped me excel on this paper. Without a clear set of steps it would have been hard to complete on time. Overall the writing process is extremely valuable to
In week one of Writing 101, the class was introduced to the writing process for college level writing. We focused on reading and note taking strategies to help assist us with starting and finishing the writing process. We also learned how to identify and correct sentence fragments. Our first writing assignment was due in week
I have learned that it is easier to begin writing the paper a week before instead of the night before. In high school it was easy to do it the night before but in college you have so much more going on with other classes that it is less stressful just to get it out of the way. Peer editing was never my thing up until this year, I did not like other reading my paper and I did not really like reading other’s papers.
Throughout the semester, I have been challenged with many different writing techniques that have helped to improve my writing. Over the past few weeks, I have attempted to incorporate these techniques into my essays, resulting in boosting my skills as a writer. The following will discuss my improvements as a writer, as well as the challenges I have faced this past semester. When I revisited the first essay assigned to me, I came across many areas that needed improvement. During the revising process, I could see how much my writing improved during the last 15 weeks.
During the course of English composition courses I have skilled a many of objectives that I once thought were impossible. I have not only developed as an author and a learner, but as a person as well. I have added the knowledge and self-confidence and it earnings to pace out into the world. During this semester, I was challenged with essay and a description along with smaller reading passages and writings. I recently understood that the skills you gain in English Composition, will be most valuable to me.
The method of research, citing facts, and brainstorming ideas was very intense in this class. Reading various arguments debating the topic I want to write on, was very challenging and time consuming. In this reflection essay I want to show how researching process was vital on changing my writing style. Also, what I’ve learned in English 105 class after a great summer semester with lots of material to learn from. Researching was drastically important, making every paper I made heavily based on research.
