At the beginning of the revolution in 1978 she fell in love with the neighbor son, so they were talking by letter that Marji helped her to write, But the relevant point, is not that, it is that when the boy realized that Merhi was the maid of Merji’s family they had to stop talking. For example this point, is evidence in the chapter ‘’the key’’, when Mrs.Nasrine (her maid) said that ‘’they gave this to my son at school. They told the boys that if they went to war and were lucky enough to die, this key would get them into heaven’’ (p.99), in this frame is represented, the way that children were manipulated to take his own innocence, to do part of the revolution in a silent way, and how they were marginalized, because they really do not know why they have to use the different things that law told them to use. This evident in Marjane Satrapi’s book Persepolis because the whole book is about a girl growing up, and forming her own opinions. Furthermore, Marjane has to mature in the turmoil of an Iranian-Iraqi war, she also has to survive the brutal Islamic regime governing her. This creates a very particular point of view considering that the parents raising Marjane are against the new form of government, and actively protest, risking their lives. Acknowledging the fact that people could have different opinions based on their own perspectives is very important. In Persepolis, Marjane writes as her 10 year old self, sharing what she experienced in Iran, while they were in the middle of a revolution. Throughout the book, she gets older and her perspective changes multiple times over several different topics. Marjane Satrapi’s perspective affects her presentation of imperialism, religion and loss of innocence.
These restrictions anger Marji greatly, because she wants to become an adult and attend the demonstrations right alongside her parents. Following the demonstrations, when the actual war starts, Marji’s parents take her on a vacation to Italy and Spain, for three whole weeks. This may seem to Marji as a fun vacation, but its true purpose is because the Satrapi family may never get to go on vacation again, and the war is coming and they do not want to be in Iran when it begins. Without her parents Marji would be stuck in Iran, helpless, and most likely dead from the demonstrations. Satrapi creates the motif of Marji’s parents caring about her to show how significant their actions are for Marji’s life and well being.
